Hi sall - just a quick one.

Redirecting our Start Menu here ...

1) How do I set it up so shortcuts appear in the below box (if I click "Alll Programs" I see my redirected start menu!)

2) How do I stop the start menu copying all folders from the default user profile into the start menu (for example Accessories, Administrative tools..) etc.

I used to know the answer for the latter but I have completley forgotten! :)

Cheers,

Rich

Okay, I fixed Point 2 by turning on the Remove common program groups from Start Menu (User Configuration\AdministrativeTemplates\Start Menu & Taskbar) GPO, 1) is still needed though :)

Right, that blank window can store 2 things, shortcuts pinned to the start menu and most recently used programs. You can add up to 5 recently used programs if you are using windows deployment services through the unattend script under StartPanelLinks in Microsoft-Windows-Shell-Setup. Other than that, it's extremely difficult to do, which is a deliberate ploy by Microsoft to stop application install cluttering up this area. There is a way to do it though, but it's not easy, see Pin Items to the Start Menu or Windows 7 Taskbar via Script - The Deployment Guys - Site Home - TechNet Blogs
