Pci/Pci e Doh!

Some Wally, cough Me cough, bought a nice Grphic adapter with HDMI. Did I check if I had a PCI E slot? No. only PCI

 

Do I:

Send it back.

Get an adapter.

get a new motherboard.

 

What is the best and cheapish route to go down?

You will need a PCI-E slot if you actually want to play modern games so new motherboard is the only option in that case.

In which case I'd check if you can find a suitable PCI replacement before sending it back. I haven't checked PCI graphics cards for a while but it was rapidly dieing a long long time ago so you might not be able to find what you need anymore.

Maybe it's in then. Perhaps I had a bit of a brain overload and I have to rethink what I'm doing.

You can get cards for PCI with HDMI output, or just use DVI with an adaptor. However, I think it'll be fighting a losing battle - could you consolidate the two with a newer motherboard with onboard graphics and HDMI?

It could be worse, I gave a mate and old AGP card I had. When it wouldn't fit (it turned out his PC had PCi-Express) he made it fit, he ended up needing a new PC.

My thoughts are on the lines of playing video I have taken & using the TV as a large photo frame. I have a laptop and netbook for other things and a NAS. It is just that I have a decent PC that I wanted to make use of.
