A real storm

I would have posted this last night, but was to busy watching the spectical\getting caught in it. About 6pm last night an hour and a half storm hit the Preston area. I was out picking my daughter up from rainbows at her school about 200 meters away. I took a large golfing umbrella as it looked like rain. By the time I got to the school the sky started to rumble and lightning flashing, but it was constant like I'd not heard since I lived in Belize. And then the rain came. It was just a deluge. Even with the umbrella my daughter and I were soaked through by the time we got home as the rain was coming straight down and hitting the ground so hard it bounced straight back up again, soaking up from the bottom upwards!

Anyway, it was very impressive, and some areas had flash floods:

And the hosepipe ban is still in place

My son was at a campsite in Edale last night and the river burst its banks. Said there was something like a mini sunami as the water built up behind a blockage, and then an almighty bang as the blockage was broken through. Thankfully he was camped on higher ground. And I only got the text this morning so was able to sleep blissfully unaware. Of course, being a teenager he may have exaggerated things just a bit....

 

 

 

EDIT: He wasn't! The bang was actually debris being washed down the river and hitting trees. What was a trickle of water in the river bed at 9.30pm was a raging torrent at 10.30pm. I've seen the video he took after he was surprised by the sudden arrival of other tents being pitched around him in the dark! Must have been all the water coming down from all those storms further north.

My wife took our son up the road to the doctors and about just before she set off (about 15 minutes before the storm hit) she asked my opinion of the weather and if she should walk up with the pram or take the car.

 

Naturally a 5 minute walk I suggested she'd be fine and to "take my coat just in case"...

 

I think I'll be allowed to live this one down around 2050...

Well i had the fun of a leaking roof at work, and a 8 inch deep flood caused by the drain being blocked. Had to wade in to clear it out and stick buckets under the leaks, certainly wasn't going on the roof to clear gutters in that rain. Poor dog was left in backyard and took shelter under the trees, she was nice and try till she ran across the garden which was in about 2 inch of water. Nice and refreshing though.

 

Dos_Box - Where bouts in preston is that? It looks very familar, but can't quite picture it!

It wasn't anything like that bad down here, but I did spend the evening climbing around in trees rigging lights for an outdoor play. Damp would be rather an understatement.

Driving across the Severn crossing about 11pm the rain was horizontal. The drivers side wiper then decided to join the door mirror. I had to drive a reasonably distance from a lorry to get to a safe spot to open the window and push it back onto the windscreen. Great fun.
