hi people please help yesterday me server went down and would not let me log in used to go to the blue screen and then reboot i manged to log in by going to the last know good configuration however when i went into event viewer i can see an error source called OPPY_UI Category 1019 event 5 the detaiils are; (the error message appears many times)

The description for Event ID ( 5 ) in Source ( OPPY_UI ) cannot be found. The local computer may not have the necessary registry information or message DLL files to display messages from a remote computer. You may be able to use the /AUXSOURCE= flag to retrieve this description; see Help and Support for details. The following information is part of the event: CODE 0xC0000005 / DLL C:\WINDOWS\system32\spool\DRIVERS\W32X86\3\OPPY_UI.DLL / BASEADDR 0x68600000 / EXCEPTIONADDR 0x68609A14.

Please Help

From what I can find the "OPPY_UI" file is a process used by the OKI PCL5c UI Printer Driver program. This system file was created by Oki Data Corporation. Typical errors with the oppa_ui.dll file include File Not Found, Missing File, Exception Errors.

As pooley said about the printer driver, try going in via safe mode and remove the offending driver. Then run a "chkdsk c: /p /r" just to make sure there are no other issues. If this your PDC then expect a few hours of down time, but I would play safe and rule out further corruption.

Have you recently installed an OKI printer? If so, it looks like this has messed up somehow. going back to last known good has presumably stopped the driver from loading (and failing) but hasn't completely removed the software and this could be causing the errors you're now seeing in the event log.

I think error 0xC0000005 is generally an access denied error - it could be bad permissions on the driver file or it could be that some other process is opening the file and preventing access.

You could try uninstalling the OKI printer from the machine (and, if at all possible, never install printer drivers on a DC again) and see if that fixes the problem.

You can try using the Kyocera driver deleter (http://www.kyocerasupport.co.uk/dlc/gb/utility/all/Deleter_2_9_2619.-downloadcenteritem-Single-File.downloadcenteritem.tmp/Driver_Deleter2_9_2619.zip) - it will clean up any printer drivers, not just Kyocera.

The switches for chkdsk can be found just by typing chkdsk /? at a command prompt. The /r tells it to scan the whole disc, including the bits not used for data to see if there are bad sectors and to try and recover them. The /f tells it to fix other problems (I think /p is the equivalent in recovery mode; not sure why there are 2 switches to do much the same thing??)

FYI: Chkdsk /R implies F anyway :)

Didn't know that, thanks

(edit) I would have know it if I actually read the /? file lol!

Be very very careful running chkdsk - if you suspect a hard drive corruption it can do some very nasty things - one exapmple is stripping off all you ACL's for instance. Look at your system event log really carefully looking for disk errors - normally reported as SCSI type issues. If its a RAID system, check that it is'nt degraded or in rebuild. Certainly never ever run chkdsk whan a raid is degraded or rebuilding - you could do terminal damage.

i have dne a dskchk but it will do the chk next time the server restarts

It will need to do that to have exclusive access to the disk.
