enjay Posted July 1, 2010 Posted July 1, 2010 Can I ask roughly what you guys pay for a projector install? I've just been quoted around £500 + parts + VAT - is this fair or should I be shopping around?
localzuk Posted July 1, 2010 Posted July 1, 2010 I'd shop around. We usually pay around £200 - £300 + parts for ours. Give Active Visual a call (.:: ActiveOnline ::.) as they usually get the best prices for us. 1
36Degrees Posted July 1, 2010 Posted July 1, 2010 Whatever the cost of the specific projector plus the ceiling mount and VGA cable. The actual installation is carried out between the site guys and ourselves as we usually save a lot of money that way.
enjay Posted July 2, 2010 Author Posted July 2, 2010 (edited) The actual installation is carried out between the site guys and ourselves as we usually save a lot of money that way. I've wondered about doing that, but for the quantity we do, I'm not sure there would be much of a saving by the time we've bought (and learned to use) all the tools we'd need. hullpete Posted July 2, 2010 Posted July 2, 2010 you should really have professional installers who are accredited engineers as this could invalidate any warranty you receive with any smartboard equipment or promethean boards you may try to install on your own, also im presuming you use good fixings for your projector brackets for heath and safety reasons most installers like myself also have to carry a minimum of 10million pounds public liability insurance now to work in schools. cheers pete
laserblazer Posted July 2, 2010 Posted July 2, 2010 I always worry what would happen if I installed a mount and it came down on someone's head! So I let the "professionals" do it, they have insurance.
enjay Posted July 2, 2010 Author Posted July 2, 2010 In this instance, we're just talking projectors and not boards as well. As for public liability, the site team's installation is surely covered by the school's existing insurance. All that aside, we're not going to be doing these ones ourselves! So, that's 1 vote for shopping around, anyone else concur?
hullpete Posted July 2, 2010 Posted July 2, 2010 enjay i would check on the particulars of the schools insurance before you proceed with your installations as my insurance is very specific and geared towards audio visual installations in particular, it may be that your school insurance does not cover liability for your installations, worth checking before proceeding if you ask me, last thing a school would want to be lumbered with is a lawsuit for the death of a child where a projector falls off the ceiling due to insufficient safe fixings and lack of insurance, Cheers Pete
enjay Posted July 2, 2010 Author Posted July 2, 2010 I think the last thing we would want would actually be the child's death, rather than the resulting law suit, but I take your point :-) We're not going to be doing these ones ourselves anyway, as the site team don't have the time this summer - it is just a casual thought for the future.
sippo Posted July 2, 2010 Posted July 2, 2010 Should take about half a days labour to install a projector. Think we pay around the £200 mark.
Marc-Engineer Posted July 31, 2010 Posted July 31, 2010 WE are aproved installers, a normal charge for a full install is around £350 that includes whiteboard (+2) the projector only depends on what you have already if you mean to swap for another then around £30, if it involves a pole move then around £100, if its a freash install and is to include all fitting and cables to a wall mounted box (but no whiteboard) around £200. I hope this helps, but please make sure you have your asbestos certificate ready for the installer, every install should ask for this BEFORE doing any work in any room. Marc Projector Engineer

Friendly, professional staff, very neat installs and left the place tidy. I have a new preferred supplier!

sjatkn Posted August 20, 2010 Posted August 20, 2010 I pay £420 including ceiling mount & cabling, a little more if the ceiling is very high. He will supply a projector, screen or IWB at extra cost though I often get a better price on the projector and IWB. The teachers are always pleased when he has been through, not only do they get a very neat projector installation but the rooms are cleaner than before he started. I use Multimedia Installations Ltd ([email protected]).
