Fonz_Valo Posted June 25, 2010 Posted June 25, 2010 Hi all, Today when i logged into the web interface for our Smoothwall Network Guardian I was greeted with a nasty red cross by database server and upon viewing the systems logs I receive the following message: "smoothwall Unable to connect to the database to run reports, or insert new information" Can anyone shed some light on this for me? It was working fine until today, we are fully patched up if that helps Thanks alot guys
Fonz_Valo Posted June 28, 2010 Author Posted June 28, 2010 I need to add that I can not access the "optimize database" option as under the "database backup" section I receive an error stating: "Error - Unable to connect to the database system, please review settings" Can anyone please advise on this as I'm completely stuck for ideas
john Posted June 28, 2010 Posted June 28, 2010 I'd suggest you give the support guys a call to get them to look at it (sorry Tom is over in Denver doing the Smoothwall stand with ZH and Dos_Box from here) so that is probably the quickest way of getting it sorted. I would guess, but await Tom murdering me when he does see this, that it won't optimise as it isn't started as its failed.
linkazoid Posted June 28, 2010 Posted June 28, 2010 I had the same problem after updating. I created a ticket and it was fixed by Anton within the hour! Michael
Dos_Box Posted June 28, 2010 Posted June 28, 2010 (This is Tom Disguised as Dos_Box - sorry Chris!) - echo the idea of calling support- also check disk space on the log partition (should say on the dashboard) Tom (in Denver, on-stand)

(not that we in my place don't already respect you and the team as a God!, say hi to Claire for us as well )
Fonz_Valo Posted June 29, 2010 Author Posted June 29, 2010 Thanks guys, I'll log a call with the support team now
Fonz_Valo Posted June 29, 2010 Author Posted June 29, 2010 Problem now resolved A big thank you to Chris at smoothwall for helping me with this, I don't know if he uses these boards but, still a big thanks to him

SuperCrazyMark Posted January 29, 2013 Posted January 29, 2013 If you connect to your Smoothwall via putty and type: /usr/bin/smoothwall/pg_helper.pl It will start the database for you...
