ZeroHour Posted June 16, 2010 Posted June 16, 2010 Hi I just installed the latest build (600mb wth!) and so far I have found things a little more sluggish on boot. After a couple of clean boots things still dont appear to load as fast. Hows everyone else finding it?
ZeroHour Posted June 16, 2010 Author Posted June 16, 2010 Hrm it was very late last night I installed it, must have misread maybe. I assume they are all the same size for all users and not hardware specific?
Sylv3r Posted June 16, 2010 Posted June 16, 2010 Hrm it was very late last night I installed it, must have misread maybe. I assume they are all the same size for all users and not hardware specific? Could well be Hardware specific. I've just installed it on my MacBook = 224MB and 315MB on my iMAC.
SC-UK Posted June 16, 2010 Posted June 16, 2010 Definitely hardware, and to a degree, existing software dependant. Older model Mac's will usually require a larger download for big updates such as this. I'm still holding off on 10.6.4 for a few days at least. Will wait and see what happens with it first! Apple updates don't normally cause too much of a problem, but I still never like to jump in and update straight away. Tom
ZeroHour Posted June 16, 2010 Author Posted June 16, 2010 Yeh tbh I did think it would be stupid to put all the macbook etc drivers in one huge download rather then specific. I have a i5 mbp and nvidia drivers are not usually small knowing them.
Sylv3r Posted June 16, 2010 Posted June 16, 2010 Just to update this - no noticeable slow downs for me, only been using it for 30 mins or so.
ZeroHour Posted June 16, 2010 Author Posted June 16, 2010 It seems okay when booted but booting did seem slower. I will try another reboot and see how it goes. What hardware do you have?
AngryITGuy Posted June 16, 2010 Posted June 16, 2010 It seems okay when booted but booting did seem slower. I'm having similar issues with my MBP too seems noticeably more sluggish as it boots but once booted and the OS loaded it seems fine was also over 600MB. iMac update wasn't as large but more interestingly it doesn't seem to suffer the same fate as the MBP, it may be an issue related just to the MBP whatever it is it needs sorting!!! 1
HodgeHi Posted June 17, 2010 Posted June 17, 2010 enter terminal an enter sudo periodic daily This runs a cleanup script that is scheduled to run daily by the system itself. However due to the time it is supposed to run (3am) most laptops are not on. This may help. Also you could try sudo periodic weekly and sudo periodic monthly Also you could try resetting the PRAM, although this is only usually for power management i think press the power button and then on boot hold down P, R and the and alt keys. You should see a grey screen and then it will reboot and chime again. Don't blame me though if anything breaks. Use at your own risk. 1
jamin100 Posted June 17, 2010 Posted June 17, 2010 You should always repair your permissions after a big update (or so im told)
