I don't have any issues with kids using personalised google background as long as they don't abuse the system and just use it to mess around in lessons!

If (under Firefox) you forbid Google via NoScript you don't get the background.

 

I use AltaVista (the original and best, but then i did used to work for DEC ) and that has a nice, simple, clear search page.

I liked google BECAUSE it was clean and free from junk, oh well, time to find another.

 

Seems like you might be in luck. I have a Google homepage which is VERY basic [not even the Google logo!]

 

Perhaps the background images have "Died The Death"

I hate the new homepage. When it loaded up I went 'wtf!' and was immediately looking to see how I could get rid of the crappy picture. Google have shot themselves in the foot over this. What next? Big picture adverts on the page?

Was just thinking about trying to block http://www.google.co.uk/accounts that way google is ok, but they can't log into google to change the background.... Can't see why I've have any problems with that?

 

Tried this all day but it wasn't being blocked.. noticed it as an https site so tried setting up https interception in Smothwall, but still no luck, the page still comes up for kids and they can sign in...

Hi Gatt,

 

You might want to try blocking the Image Hosting: Unmoderated category. This will stop user-uploaded background images from displaying.
