SayNoTo0870 might just be on market as 0870 (my mistake), or you can install it from here using the QR code

 

With regards to beebPlayer, just read on David Johnston's blog he has removed it from the market. Not sure if this QR code will work then but you can try it.

You also need to root your phone to do this, it won't work on stock Android. I wish they'd hurry up getting Froyo out! Anybody know if it's available on any platform yet? I got excited yesterday when there was a system update available on my Desire, was gutted when I realised it wasn't Froyo

 

As far as I know, Android 2.2 is already officially released for the Nexus One in certain countries. HTC are currently working to bring it to the desire, and hopefully other recent models. Not sure about other manufacturers with existing handsets. Given how long it took some manufacturers to provide an upgrade from 1.x to 2.1, it could be a long time if at all

Cyanogen v5.0.7 is from a 2.1 (Eclair) base. I have had this on my rooted Magic for a week or two.

 

I think that's about the newest (stable) thing you'll find.

Has anyone got WiFi Analyzer (by farproc) I can grab a copy of? I can't seem to get a good enough signal for the download site or the site isn't working properly. All other downloads from the Market work fine, except the one I'm after

Alternatively a site I can download it to my PC so I can transfer it to my phone?

Is there a mail client that will allow me to check multiple online accounts and view the megs but leave them in the mail boxes so that I can download them to my main pc when I get home? Only had the desire a couple of days and just loving it at the moment, the freedom to txt with a keyboard, heaven!

I've set up Google Mail to collect msgs from my school pop3 account but leave them on the server so I can still get a them on my PC at night

The standard mail client will do it, just make sure its set to leave mail on server

Gmail has never failed once but there is an up to 40 min delay in receiving emails.

 

It seems you can't have your cake and eat it with email on Desire

I've found the best Email app for Android is K-9 Mail. It's free and supports lots of features with push and poll options. Nothing to lose by giving it a go

You've mentioned before about k-9 - but what does it do for you better/nicer/easier than Google Mail

 

And does it have a fault that you don't like?

 

(Just don't want to spend time re-setting email accounts settings if there's no real gain )

Gmail is nice on the Nexus, but the default client for IMAP/POP is a bit basic and an all-or-nothing approach when it comes to the many folders I have on the school Zimbra server.

 

In K-9 there are settings for display, push and poll for 'classes' of folders, which you define. You can set the class for individual folders so only the 'important' ones are shown and sync'd

 

This is just on the Nexus though - I don't know for certain if there is a different app on the HTC-branded devices. If I was only bothered about my inbox folder and wasn't fussed about others, the default app would probably suffice.

I tried K-9 recently based on the recommendations here. It crashed 3 times in a couple of hours, and despite uninstalling it 4 days ago, I still got an alert from it on my phone today saying it couldn't synchronise... check the program list to check I wasn't going crazy and I had indeed removed it. WTF?

Well I'm due for a phone upgrade in July - I must admit that the HTC Desire is coming out on top for me - especially with so many others recommending it. But I have to ask the stupid question... I currently have a Nokia 5800 XpressMusic. I'm assuming there will be *some* way to transfer my contacts and such to the Desire and that it has some kind of PC-based software suite that means I can back up the phone to PC etc.

 

But the list of Apps for Android are... impressive. I've always used Symbian phones, so this - if I go for it - will be my first Android.

I synced my Nokia to Outlook using Nokia PC Suite, and then from Outlook to my Dell Streak, using the software that came with the phone. I don't know if the HTC phones come with similar sync software as the Streak software was Dell-branded.

I synced my HTC Desire with google contacts, mail and Outlook on my PC - literally took 2 mins, most of which was time taken by me checking I was pressing the right buttons.

Just got the email app up and running on my Desire, what are the 'Download options' for? or am I just being Monday morning stupid? And where do I tell it to just show me what emails there are and not download them from the server so I can download them on to my PC at home? Don't know if its doing that by default?
