[wds] WDS hangs when imaging laptops

We are having problems when trying to image our LAM Systems (Compal) jhl91 laptops with WDS. We PXE boot the machines, they get their IPs, we choose which boot image selection we want, the laptops start to downlaod the image into their RAM, we can see the progress bar, the text "Windows is loading files..." and our WDS Server IP. When the progressbar reaches the end and is fully filled white, the laptops HANG! Nothing happens - no error, nothing.

 

We have tried the following boot images:

 

Windows 7 x86 and x64

Server 2008 R2 x64

 

We have injected the proper network and chipset drivers into the boot images as well as updated the BIOS.

 

These are the only machines we are having an issue with. Boot and install images work fine on other machines.

Any ideas on what to look for?

Try on one disabling everything in the bios

 

 

I had this problem with a whole classroom before, in the end I found out that it was the audio controller, has I keep enableing things back until I got the problem again. Of course it was ok to turn back on the audio controller once it was installed

Did anyone find anyway to solve this. As we seem to be having the same problem described above. We have a bare bone image on a new WDS server we created. It runs on Server 2008 R2 so has the extra features of WDS such as driver injection but when we boot via PXE and choose the image, it begins the progress bar but then just says windows is loading files and just hangs there. It only seems to be with 2 specific laptops which have a CLEVO motherboard, other desktops and laptops seem to be fine.

 

Like the OP we have injected the proper network and chipset drivers into the boot image. There wasn't a BIOS update needed for these laptops.

 

Whats odd when it boots up WDS it tries to load x64 WDS. We have WDS on a x64 server,is this why it is happening?

How much ram do the laptops have?

They should have enough RAM to run 7. one setup of laptops have 2gb and the others have 4gb. Doubt if memory is the problem.

did you ever find a solution to this problem. we are trying to pxe boot some of these laptops to WDS and MDT but they are having none of it
