wellscs Posted June 7, 2010 Posted June 7, 2010 Please could someone help me, my exchange server is running out of disk space (6Gb left out of 210Gb). Is there antway that I can compress the databases or delete old files/log files to recover some much needed space Thanks Wellscs
vikpaw Posted June 7, 2010 Posted June 7, 2010 Might be worth asking all users to have a tidy up of their mailboxes, delete old stuff, empty deleted items and archive off anything they want to keep...
SYNACK Posted June 7, 2010 Posted June 7, 2010 you'll need free space to run a compression as even deleting items in the database will cause the DB to remain the same size. It it being backed up properly as it does not prune the log files until a successful backup has occurred. This could be the issue as a 150GB DB sounds quite large. To do a defragment and compress on the exchange DB you will want to use eseutil How to defragment with the Eseutil utility (Eseutil.exe) but you will need the same amount of space again for it to compress into and some serious time to run it. (2+ hours)
chazzy2501 Posted June 7, 2010 Posted June 7, 2010 Are you running regular backups? A windows backup will remove transaction logs.
