Primary School (not mine) needs help with website - Maidstone

I had no idea where to post this as this is more a voluntary post (probably), but it was a short news story in today's Kent Messenger (4/6/10) and I though that maybe one of you guys could help out. Anyway, who knows where it could lead?

IMHO and absolutely no disrespect to anyone here but I think the school needs to just pay someone (the small amount required) to do the job

 

Like they do for other services - like cleaning etc

 

Of course, if someone connected to the school wants to help out for free then that's good and fine but its not the type of thing that requires outside aid.

Totally agree with Simon... in the whole scheme of things, the build of a new simple primary school website shouldn't cost too much.

 

I think the school is being a bit naieve to think that one of todays primary forms of outside facing communication isn't worth some investment...

Fair enough - you think they should pay for it... however, if someone wants to give them a hand, with the edugeek template for example, that's up to them. It could also be a foot in the door for one of the unemployed edugeeks at the moment, which why I posted it.

We all volunteer and work for free now, remember?

 

Basically it's the only thing left now that RM and Capita have stitched up the wonderful free-market experiment called BSF / PFI and turned it into a nice little duopoly of the exact sort that isn't supposed to occur in the weird and wonderful world of free-market economics that anyone could see was inevitably going to happen.

heh sorry I am just being harsh because of (a) long-term unemployment caused by (b) politicians privatising everything.

 

I'd love to help, that's why I clicked on it. Unfortunately I'm poor, and the benefits people would probably construe helping out like this a capital offence, punishable by massive quantities of form-filling to return to the breadline in about 6 weeks.

In my own case, It just a case of where to direct charitable efforts

 

The chair of govs of my local school (the Vicar) asked me if I'd mind doing a website for his church.

 

I'm not of his faith but of course I said no problem - and I wouldn't dream of charging him.

 

Now, I'd expect someone local to the school you mentioned to maybe do the same.

 

But I pay for my beer by making school websites so I personally wouldn't want to do it for free

 

For others around here - its their livelyhoods.

You aint the only one who would do things for free to help out people, althugh i do see where simon is coming from sometimes it's a rewarding thing helping out schools/places/people voluntary someties you even get something to say thanks which is not expected! but helping the community is good!

 

Hence why i have done EduTech Hosting.

I seem to recall some advice given on these forums to those who wanted to get a foot on the educational IT support ladder was to try doing some voluntary work to gain experience and have something to add to your cv.
