some small things i noticed:

", Powered by" is in your footer, not sure if that comma is deliberate.

as for the gallery, doesn't work for me, on XP on FF 3.6.3

perhaps Google sfpg and have a look at the PHP gallery there, the 3.6 one is freeware, and very easy to use, and update if you are the customer. I have integrated it into a customers site, and it works very nicely, no permission editing required, seems to work right out the box, with 99.9% of browsers.

I have also noted a small 1px line in the header, purple in the very right, not very noticeable unless you really stare, but thought I would mention :)

XHTML for the homepage fails for me, using W3C Markup Validation Service.

Line 34, Column 23: end tag for "ul" which is not finished

Hope that helps :)

A black background? Why so many dark colours?

At the moment I wouldn't buy from them, as soon as I visit the site I just want to close it. You want light colours, whites, pinks, pretty colours etc :)

It's very very dark and hard to read the text. I'd feed that back to her.

Also in Firefox 3.6.3 the left navigation and logon boxes are split up.

I'd also look at improving the quality of some of the cake images.

Edit: Also http://www.taylorsdesigns.co.uk/ goes to the cake site?

Fair enough... customer isn't always right though.

After-all you are the professional, they should listen to your advice/suggestions and stick to what they are good at - baking cup cakes?

I'd produce a quick mock up of what it would be like with brighter colours, and let her see how nice and fresh it could look. At the moment I'd think she's baking cakes for depressing events.

and yes, that is my site, I will restore the old one, but as I do not have subdomains on my hosting, I had to store it elsewhere and build up from scratch. When this one is purchased, I will restore my old site

Welcome to the cupcake website! mind giving me some feedback?

ummmm..... I don't like it. And check your PM!

1. Font is hard to read on header graphic

2. Header graphic and colour of font clash way too much

3. Black background, pink writing.... just awful and all I can see when I go to another site is image 'burn' on my eyes!

4. The pink panels need to be aligned in line with the header graphic. They look out of position where they are, as if the browser has rendered them in the wrong place.

5. I do like the gallery, but even that is only to a point.

The site needs pastel colours, it needs to be soft and 'fluffy' like.

Websites of the same genre that I like are (for example) :: Welcome to The Cupcake Factory Website :: and Butter Cupcake Shop.co.uk, Buttercup, Cupcakes, Cupcakes London, Cupcakes Kensington, Cupcakes Chelsea, Fairy cakes London,

The design you've been told to do is just awful! Sorry...

I Don't like to be negative about things, and i am no expert in webdesign infact i have to ask pals to look at it for me because i would not know where to start, but the way you have been asked to design that site is not very good to be honest i don't like it if i am really honest :( and i dont like saying bad things about peoples work as i know alot of time and effort has probably gone into it but it is just not web friendly.

I think the best part about it at the moment is the gallery plug-in that is a very nice feature! :)

Take some advice from the pro's mate and have a chat to your customer see if you can convince her to have a more friendly look

Look forward to seeing the developments

James.

It could win an award for how a website should NOT look :)

I realise its not your fault but you should print out the more constructive comments from this thread and hand them to your client :)

(With maybe a link to one that looks OK) :)

Totally agree - maybe you should create a second demo site in a sub directory and show them how you think it should look as apposed to explaining it to them, seeing is believing after all !!

No offense to your website design and skills but that site is just wrong - felt like I was having motion sickness or something I just felt like throwing up, had to close it down quicker then I opened it !!

I buy drink and all sorts from other websites and they don't look brilliant but at least the colours are a lot better then that

Buy the finest biltong on the web! &gt Blue Rock Biltong &gt www.bluerockbiltong.co.uk

Anglo Australian Trading Home Page for Australia Shop, Canada Shop, New Zealand Shop and South Africa Shop

Just a couple of sites that I use to give you an idea ref colours ( not design / layout )
