Backups Tape Log Sheet

Do any of you guys keep a log sheet for each backup tape change?

I am looking at implementing one, but not quite sure how much information to log

I am thinking:

 

Date

Time

Backup ID (from BackupExec)

Tape Label

Initials of who put the tape in

Success or Fail

 

I know backup exec logs everything, but sometimes its easier to refer to paper than trawl through the logs onscreen...

Use an autoloader\tape library combined with good backup software and you'll never need to log tne again. When backups get to big you backup to disk\tape library and just do a weekly backup to take offsite.

I've attached a copy of the log I keep. Not very detailed but I know which worked/failed and at a glance what tape was used on what day. It also kept the auditors happy!

I would, if the school would be willing to pay for one.. which they are not

just editted your log sheet to deal with our backup tapes for the summer term, ending with a complete backup for pupils and then for staff..

Will sit down properly next week and get my tapes in order for September.. hopefully RM will provide me with more tapes and an auto-loader (Oh look - a flying pig!!)
