Windows server backups

Hi,

At the moment I use NTBackup on my 2003 fle server and Windows server backups on my 2008R2 DC. As it stands I can get at individual files with NTBackup (please sir I've lost xyz file) but not with Windows server backup. At some point I will have to migrate the file server to 2008R2.

Am I missing something with this and is it possible to restore individual files with Windows server backup or am I going to have to look for an alterative that gives me the functionality.

if its user files i just use robocopy and dump them to a nas box then i can just drag and drop them back. For full08 backups i use macrium reflect

Yes you should be able to restore individual files as long as you havent backed up to DVD/CD.

EDIT: it takes 30min snapshots throughout the day.

If you have Volume Shadow Copy configured then staff and students can recover their own deleted files - I only use the backup software (Yosemite, in our case) to ensure there are off site backups kept

as long as vss is happy (and i have a script that fixes it if not) backing up is fine ive not had to restore in anger yet. The main issue i have with it is that due to silly lea isp it wont e-mail if it fails so i have to remember to check. Its free for 30 days anyway iirc to try

Since Exchange is a VSS aware application there should be no problem backing up Exchange 2010.
