HP Proliant ML350 G5 Warning lights

I came in this morning and one of the status lights was red. It was the one second in from the right. A box with an electronic line in it (Does that make sense?!). Any idea's what that means?

 

I've restarted the server and all seems ok for now.

If it were the power supply then surely the power warning light would still be on?? It's back to green now... I blame the weather.

That LED refers the the Internal Health Status.

 

We've had a few of our ML350 G3 Servers with that fault over the past few years.

 

At the time when we spoke to HP Tech Support, they suggested to open the lid and look inside as they claim that the component that was causing the fault would have a red LED illuminated next to it.

 

Over time we've re-seated memory, CPU, (& replaced) leads, connections, PSU etc. We're even swapped PSUs.

 

The servers were powered via an APC SMART UPS 5000 so that should eliminate surges / spikes etc.

 

The events logs and HP Management software never logged a problem with any hardware, temperature etc, only logging that ASR had been activated and automatically rebooted the server.

 

Bizarrely, we only concluded that this seemed to happen when the CPU(s) were running at 100% for a period of time.

Overheating CPU warning will do this, I had to replace the thermal compound on one of the CPUs to fix this same kind of fault. Check to see what the error was by using the Integrated Managment Log Viewer app that will read out all the hardware error codes. If its not already installed just grab a copy of the hp site under the ML350 driver page, it can record stuff like bluesreen codes too so is very handy.
