Quick question: we have a member of staff leaving and want to put an auto-forward on his e-mails so that they all come to me (he is the ICT co-ordinator, so makes sense in case it's anything IT related).

Can we do this:

a) from his account?

b) via SUMS?

c) something that we'd have to request from County It support?

d) something that we'd have to request from Synetrix?

As the possible solutions are many, it would be great if someone could point me in the right direction.

We use Zimbra here, and setting up aliases is a doddle. Would imagine it to be fairly easy in any email system TBH.

Do you have control over your email accounts or are they held with an external provider (like your LEA)?

We're in Derbyshire, so the LEA hold the accounts as far as I know. SUMS is the user management system for e-mails but it's a bit clunky!

Added to which, SUMS appears to have gone through an upgrade to version 9 which requires some browser setting changes - of course I am psychic so I would have known this!

But now found some alias settings buried in there .... could well be the way forward!

autoforwards always fill me with dread. It is always better to use an alias to a group where possible. If you are going to auto-forward it is via a mail rule within OWA. However, only forward to another address within the same domain. If you forward sensitive materials or protected materials outside of the secure environment of the school's email (even if hosted by EMBC) then you are leaving yourself open for all sorts of problems.

Yes, I see what you mean, the possibilities of an endless loop abound. Am going with an alias for now anyway, hopefully there won't be too many e-mails and I can delete the alias in September when the new ICT co-ordinator starts.

Hi - this should be possible from his account.

Log in to his account and then go to Options, then Rules and create a rule which forwards all incoming mail to your email address.

You could delete their account off sums and then set up a group in sums with the email that you have just deleted as the main address, then add your email into the group and anyone else who needs to get the emails.

Hope this make sence.
