Questions re penetrating fire-rated floors/walls with cable runs

We have a new build looming closer and cable runs may/will penetrate fire-rated walls. I've come across firestop devices for cable runs (have an internal graphite sleeve that deforms and plugs the hole when exposes to high temperature - see Cable transit systems ).

 

Have these commonly been used on recent builds where you are?

Where ever I break through a ceiling / wall (especially above suspended ceilings) you should always seal up tight using a suitable product such as:

 

intumescent mastic | fire gap filler

 

Fine it many not to you knowledge be a designated fire break but it will all help prevent the spread of fire.

It will also extremely annoy the next person who wants to run additional cables down the same route. Very interested by the transit system pete linked to as I need to reopen just such a sealed route this summer (which also had cement poured on it at the top) and I really didn't want to have to plug it again.

True there are many ways of sealing though as that site shows. With the current way everything is going that the person that did the "crime" being personally responsible for everything and anything now a days I don't want the crap hitting me if it turned out in a fire investigation that it was a fire break.
