Just a quickie, I have my performance managment in the near future and was thinking, how do you know how well you have been working? sure you sort problems for people but how do you quality check your work?

Do you have any kind of feedback? If like me you work by yourself, you tend to hide in a room someone comes and gets you saying they have a problem, you sort it, they say thank you and thats it... how does your headteacher know what you are doing and how well you are doing it?

Just interested :)

Is it your first PM? If not, get a copy of your last one and see what your targets were on that - that's what you'll be evaluated against. Also a good idea to have some sensible, achievable targets in mind for next year (stuff you plan to do anyway works best).

do you use an electronic fault log system? if not i suggest spiceworks, you can then provide analytical data such as amount of of logs completed/outstanding and time taken to sort issues etc etc

My helpdesk system i put in just before easter has log tracking on it, and I'm able to print off the statistics on the calls etc.

The way I see it,

-if I fix a problem and don't get a call on it again from the same place/user, I'm doing my job

-If new and interesting problems don't crop up too often, I'm doing my job

-If I have time to not just fix problems, but proactively IMPROVE things, I'm doing my job well :)
