webman Posted May 7, 2010 Posted May 7, 2010 Is it possible at all, to allow members to hide threads in the New Posts list which are in certain forums? For example, some members might find it useful to hide the Jokes/Interweb Things forum and ones about technologies which hold no interest - therefore making it easier for them to see posts more relevant to them. Thoughts?
sparkeh Posted May 7, 2010 Posted May 7, 2010 Thoughts? Great idea and I have suggested this a few times to filter out the cruft that ends up on the New Posts list.
powdarrmonkey Posted May 7, 2010 Posted May 7, 2010 I was talking about this yesterday, you beat me to it. I'd like to be able to ignore individual threads as well as whole forums, and it to apply to iSpy as well as everywhere else (since there where most of my lurking takes place). The option to ignore a member is practically useless.
webman Posted May 7, 2010 Author Posted May 7, 2010 @sparkeh Sorry! I mustn't have searched hard enough @powdarrmonkey That would be useful, too. The message telling you a post has been hidden because you block a user half-defeats the point as well, in my opinion. From my view, if I hide/block something, I don't want to see any reference to it until I choose to actively seek it myself. Blocking/hiding is a conscious choice so you're aware of what you've done - it can't be done accidentally.
sparkeh Posted May 7, 2010 Posted May 7, 2010 @sparkeh Sorry! I mustn't have searched hard enough Oh no I wasn't complaining, I just meant that everytime the issue of the off topic stuff that turns up in New Posts section comes up, I suggest removing the off topic stuff from the list and it has never been taken up, or even commented on by someone who could do something about it. Seems like filtering the list is the easiest way to give people who want the tech stuff quick access to what they want, and the people who want to watch videos of dogs skateboarding what they want as well.
ZeroHour Posted May 7, 2010 Posted May 7, 2010 There are a couple of addons that let you do this in a way but they are still a bit ropey so I will keep an eye on them for now. 1
