rapid_f1 Posted May 5, 2010 Posted May 5, 2010 Hi all I cant remember how to do this. I can access my email from OWA of course from home but I would like to use Outllok. I have it all setup and working great on my Mac using Entourage 2008 but cant get Outlook 2007 on PC to work. The settings ive used on the MAC are: accountid: username domain: XXX.internal exchange server: exchange.schoolname.bham.sch.uk port: 80 Yet ive tried these same settings and no go in Outlook. I have broadly followed this tutorial, any ideas anyone?outlook_from_home.pdf
rapid_f1 Posted May 5, 2010 Author Posted May 5, 2010 yes - the connection to exchnage is unavailable. outlook must be online and connected to complete this action. ie tried all different variation of the exchange address, with http, without, with https, without. dont understand how it can work in entoiurage on mac and not in outlook on windows?
kmount Posted May 5, 2010 Posted May 5, 2010 https would imply port 443 not port 80 normally. I was reading this link for Entourage, is this what yours is like? Is the SSL ticked?
rapid_f1 Posted May 5, 2010 Author Posted May 5, 2010 nope, in entourage i am just using port 80. in the link you wrote, it has the full url including http. i have simply put in exchange.schoolname.bham.sch.uk and it works fine.
m25man Posted May 5, 2010 Posted May 5, 2010 (edited) The Outlook client connects to Exchange Server using RPC over HTTPS The instructions that you posted are not even for your system!!! https://owamail.bridgew.edu You can't use the outlook client over the internet without a Frontend/Backend server and RPC over HTTPS configured and Im pretty certain you need a client certificate with Exchange 2007 Entourage uses a different way to pull the email from the webdav. 6Foot2 Posted May 5, 2010 Posted May 5, 2010 (edited) Is this a reference to Outlook Anywhere? We have Outlook Anywhere working as follows: http://i.imgur.com/Tj3ys.jpg In the Microsoft Exchange server box we have ExchangeServerName.DomainName.Local In the User Name box we put the users' username [per user setting] http://i.imgur.com/iRbDr.jpg In the HTTPS box we have mail.DomainName.Local In the box below 'Only connect to proxy servers that have this principal name in their certificate [check box ticked] we have: msstd : owa.DomainName.ORG.UK [spaces between msstd and : and : and owa removed: If these spaces are not removed in this post that string appears as: msstd:owa.DomainName.ORG.UK] With these settings our staff can connect to our exchange server with their local copies of Outlook 2003/2007. rapid_f1 Posted May 5, 2010 Author Posted May 5, 2010 thanks for the info. i know it wasnt for my system i was loosly following that tutorial but putting my own details in. surely an own goal by microsoft to have a product (made by microsoft) working fine on mac but not on a windows machine? oops posted abit too soon, will have another crack.
m25man Posted May 5, 2010 Posted May 5, 2010 It's not really an issue for Microsoft, the use of WebDav over Port 80 as you appear to be doing is completely insecure and fraught with issues. HTTPS on the otherhand and specifically RPC Tunnelling over HTTPS is about as secure as it gets.
MatthewL Posted November 3, 2015 Posted November 3, 2015 I suspect there are certificate issues as I had a similar issue. Save the certificate to your desktop and import it to your personal store and it may resolve it what you are trying to do. I also had to modify my hosts file for the owa site, and autodiscover and put in my internal fqdn of both too to point to the external IP and it worked.
