We make use of the lobby feature so I guess we need to make sure teachers are aware of the situation and not to invite any guests. Be careful with even this. Students are clockin gon - in the guest name they are typing in a proper teachers name to join the meeting. So the teacher delviering the live lesson sees Mr Pritchard wants to join, the teacher thinks thats fine, and admits Mr Pritchard, not realising its not Mr Pritchard at all. I would turn off Anonymous access in Teams admin center. I think its highly flawed for education.

It got pretty bad at one point today so I have turned off the setting "Allow anonymous access". This is what allows external accounts to join any meeting. A pretty bad flaw from Microsoft I have to say. Settings need to be more granualr. Works in business but not in a school. So now weve just got to figure out how we can have external meetings for example for job interviews - one option is to have a bank of temp school accounts and tell the external user to log onto Teams with that temp account.

Yes, when we type an external email address with these settings, it turns into an invite link which we click. They then receive the invite. Yep we get this far. But when the xternal user clicks on the link in their email, it opens the Teams app and says "Only people with access to this org can join its meetings". Again, IMO meet now wins on safeguarding too. The only possible way a student can connect to a meeting is by signing in with their valid O365 credentials, and being a member of the class team. Using scheduled meetings, the invite URL can be shared with anyone. Some randomer could join one of your lessons simply by entering a valid student name in the lobby, and then get admitted by the teacher. This actually happened in a local School, students shared the invite with their mates in other Schools, they then joined the lesson and starting taking the p!ss out of the teacher! Thats exactly what is happening here. Students are sharing their link. I have posed the question to Senior about using Meet Now only. EDIT - I have just noticed that when a student is in the meeting, they click on Particpants or they click on Meetign details, they can copy the join info. And paste this into an email. So they will still be able to get the link to the meeting even with Meet Now.

Totally agree with you. As techs, I am trying to streamline things as much as possible, I dont want the tech to be burdensome, yet of course we always have to have our safeguarding hats on. It works for us as long as they are invited using their external email address. So as a member of staff, you schedule a meeting, under Invite attendees you just put the email address of the external user, the external user clicks link in the email, and its workign for you? Doesnt work here. Il check settings again.

Yes we have Presenter set to Only Me. We dont want students to join without the teacher lettign them in. Well I enabled external access, disabled anonymous access and disabled guess access, and external users cant join the meeting, it says only people in this organisation can attend meetings. So that doesnt work. Meet now may be the way we have to go. I like the scheduling feature its allows you to schedule a whole days or weeks worth of lessons and its there a s areminder.

I definately will mention Meet Now. The one advantage of scheduling is that it allows the teacher to set meeting options so that lobby is turned on. With Meet Now they may forget. So you have Anonymous access turned off, Guest access turned off, and External access turned on (all domains allowed). Is that correct?

Hi has anyone been able to sort this from the Teams admin center? The 2 settings that are relevant are "Allow Guest access" and "Allow anonymous access". We still want to be able to have external meetings but with those 2 settings turned on, students are trying to join lessons they are not timetabled for using the link and trying to login as guest. They tried logging on as Bill gates in the username ! We have the lobby turned on but students ar egettign clever and using staff members names in the Guest username box and trying to join.

Hi all quick question. We have a page on FB for our Academy. We want to able to create an ad that appears on the right hand side of the page for our sixth form and be able to target it to say all 15-16 year olds who have an FB account. Anyone done this type of targetting before and can offer some advice? Does it cost or is it free? Thanks in advance.

couple of dumb questions: Can you just use the pci modems that come installed in pcs and connnect to phone line or is a sepearte box needed. wont this affect someone who is on a call? also can you use a dialup and adsl connection simultaneously? we have the software for the DD system.

thanks for the responses, being a facebook virgin i found it slighly confusing. Created a personal account (which i doubt i will ever use ) and then created a school page. Stupid thing is Birmngham City Council block facebook in school so only viewable soutsde.

Hi all I know of one way of blocking access to websites (using opendns). You basically create an account, set your dns servers to use opendns and set the filtering options you want in the opendns control panel. However is there an easier way? Not for myself but a member of staff who was asking. I really dont want to talk them through the opendns method. any good sw out there, preferably free?

I tested this out today and you are right. I installed the SMART Notebook software but deselected installing the drivers. Hooked up the USB cable from the Hitachi IWB and I simply opened up a blank SMART Notebook file and was using the pen interactively.

I havent had chance to look yet but on the other SMART IWB we have in school when you install the software it checks to see if a SMART IWB is present. When I install it on the laptop will it not realize its not a SMART board?

Hi all we have a load of resources in notebook file format (SMART) but the IWB in the room of this teacher is a Hitachi Cambridge. Does anyone know how I can get the Hitachi board to open these resources interactively? We do have the SMART notebook software so opening up the resources on the laptop and displaying them on the board is not a problem, its how she can use those resources interactively? Thanks.

nope, in entourage i am just using port 80. in the link you wrote, it has the full url including http. i have simply put in exchange.schoolname.bham.sch.uk and it works fine.

yes - the connection to exchnage is unavailable. outlook must be online and connected to complete this action. ie tried all different variation of the exchange address, with http, without, with https, without. dont understand how it can work in entoiurage on mac and not in outlook on windows?

Hi all I cant remember how to do this. I can access my email from OWA of course from home but I would like to use Outllok. I have it all setup and working great on my Mac using Entourage 2008 but cant get Outlook 2007 on PC to work. The settings ive used on the MAC are: accountid: username domain: XXX.internal exchange server: exchange.schoolname.bham.sch.uk port: 80 Yet ive tried these same settings and no go in Outlook.
