Jackd Posted May 3, 2010 Posted May 3, 2010 I'm trying to fix this computer, its a Fujitsu Siemens Scaleo 600 i think. Whenever i try to turn it on nothing happens, no bios, no beeps, nothing. I've removed all the expansion cards to see if its a problem with them, and all the hard disks but still nothing and ive also tried without the RAM and ive reseated the CPU but all combinations still nothing. Anyone got any ideas what could be wrong? Thanks, Jack
Michael Posted May 3, 2010 Posted May 3, 2010 It sounds like you've tried everything which just leaves the motherboard. You could try taking it out the case and placing it on some cardboard. If that still doesn't work I'd say it's probably faulty.
FN-GM Posted May 3, 2010 Posted May 3, 2010 Powersupply maybe? Check if there is anything lodge in the USB ports or if they are damaged. It might be being shorted.
Jackd Posted May 3, 2010 Author Posted May 3, 2010 Ah that reminds me that randomly the cpu fan and the psu fan just start but nothing else happens, if that changes anything. Jack
witch Posted May 3, 2010 Posted May 3, 2010 Disconnect the power supply and see if it works on its own. Remember that many supplies need a drain on them to work, and so you may need to look up the spec and short out a couple of the pins to 'tell' it that it has something attached to it. Could it be the switch or the I/O board? Have you shorted the switch to see if anything works then?
danrhodes Posted May 4, 2010 Posted May 4, 2010 (edited) Try removing the USB Cable that connects the front panel! It's a common problem on fujitsu kit. D Edited May 4, 2010 by danrhodes
featured_spectre Posted May 4, 2010 Posted May 4, 2010 doesnt sound daft at all, its a logical thing to do!
danrhodes Posted May 4, 2010 Posted May 4, 2010 doesnt sound daft at all, its a logical thing to do! True I suppose yeah, it's the logical way I sorted a few Pc's out! D
ricki Posted May 4, 2010 Posted May 4, 2010 My guesss is power supply, a usb connector shorting or motherboard. Richard
Sarconia Posted May 4, 2010 Posted May 4, 2010 It definitely sounds like a power supply issue to me. Does the motherboard have any mini LED's which indicate if it is receiving power or not?
StewartKnight Posted May 4, 2010 Posted May 4, 2010 PSU gets my vote here! Sounds like the 12v rail hasn't got any power to me!
witch Posted May 4, 2010 Posted May 4, 2010 Might not be the psu. I have two Dells which do not switch on either, there is a bit of power to the board as shown by the light on said board. If you disconnect everything except the mobo the fans start up briefly and then stop. BUT when I took the psus off and shorted out the appropriate pins they work fine - which according to the manuf means that the psus are not faulty. Which is why I asked if he had shorted the on/off switch
Jackd Posted May 4, 2010 Author Posted May 4, 2010 I can't check with another PSU until tomorrow as i don't have a spare until then. At the minute when i turn it on the fans start up and nothing else happens, i've tested the voltages from the hard drive molex connectors and they all seem normal. I can eject the CD drive tray but the hard drive doesnt seem to spin up? Thanks for all your help everyone btw
synaesthesia Posted May 4, 2010 Posted May 4, 2010 Quite possibly either CPU or motherboard at fault then. As suggested try it outside of the case. That's quite an old system isn't it? Are the capacitors intact on the motherboard? Caps bulging/blown/leaking?
Jackd Posted May 7, 2010 Author Posted May 7, 2010 I've just tried with another power supply and still the same issue that the CPU & PSU fan starts and nothing else happens. Quite possibly either CPU or motherboard at fault then. As suggested try it outside of the case. That's quite an old system isn't it? Are the capacitors intact on the motherboard? Caps bulging/blown/leaking? Nothing that I can see looks bad. The USB ports don't look damaged and i've tried without the front ones connected, i've also taken it out of the case and tried it on the floor to see if its shorting and nope Anything else I could do or should I just give up? Thanks all btw
StewartKnight Posted May 8, 2010 Posted May 8, 2010 The classic fault testing is remove everything (Except the CPU obviously). Disconnect the fans (not CPU), the h/d, the cd-rom, take off the memory.... everything. Start with just the cpu and see if it beeps at you or tries to post.
