how do i download it - tired in VLC but it failed.

I used FlashGet v1.96 to download it myself, although Orbit Downloader will also work.

You got an app I can use on OS X to download the above - not fussed about video format ie wmv, mpeg or whatever

The only app I have found that can download these types of videos on a Mac is MPlayer. Try this...

 

1) Download and install MPlayer OSX Extended to your Applications folder.

2) Open Terminal and enter the command exactly as shown below.

 

/Applications/MPlayer\ OSX\ Extended.app/Contents/Resources/Binaries/mpextended.mpBinaries/Contents/mpextended.mpBinaries/Contents/MacOS/mplayer -dumpstream mms://msstudios.wmod.llnwd.net/a2294/o21/events/springboard/1500_ms_springboard_100429.wmv

 

 

3) Once the video has finished downloading (it may take some time!) you will find a file called stream.dump in the same folder as the mplayer binary shown in Step 2. Rename this to whatever you want but the extension must be changed to WMV. This should now play in MPlayer OSX Extended, Movist or QuickTime Player with Flip4Mac. VLC didn't work for me - it just crashed.

Interesting video, it sort of confirms my understanding that MDT is overkill in a school enviroment, MDT being focused on a broad range of users and customising image deployment to cater to a large and varying user base. I suppose if you were based in an LEA and serviced lots of schools MDT would be the way to go.

I believe that our school support team are looking at MDT to prepare images. From the outside it does look like a fair old learning curve, but then so was RIS.

It looks a lot easier than SCCM. For most secondary schools, I think MDT will be fine.

We use it in our primaries, it does take some work to setup but when you have upwards of 30 different types of computers all purchased at different times and a couple of specialist comps it does make things much easier. Laptop, mucic comp, workstation etc, rebuilding them is just a couple of clicks rather than a full customisation after install or image. It does make a difference how many PCs you have to deal with though as both of these sites are well over the 150 mark, also it may be less of an advantage if you hardware was brought in big batches rather than lots of little ones.
