Luke_T Posted April 27, 2010 Posted April 27, 2010 Hey All, When trying to load ActivStudio3, the splash screen loads then get the following error messages: 1. Unable to load the last profile used, defaulting to backup copy: N:\Activstudio3\ 2. This is not a Layout file. Defaulting to shipped layout file 3. A problem has been encountered loading the default layout file ActivStudio 3 splash screen closes after last error message. This happens quite often on all machines where activstudio is installed. Can't yet upgrade to ActivInspire so looking for a solution to this isue first of all. Thank you, Luke
cmssbrie Posted April 27, 2010 Posted April 27, 2010 Hi Luke, This seems to be because Studio is looking in the location mentioned (N:\Activstudio3\) for a specific layout file - the one last used, and it can't find it. This may be because the location doesn't actually have one of these files (file extension .a3l). The layout file holds information about what the toolbox looks like. No functionality will be lost with the software - it is just more of an annoyance really, but to resolve the issue completely, you could either.... Have a look in Studio Settings -> Profiles and Resources and have a look at the 'Profile Stored in' section - this will probably be set to 'Another Location - N:\Activstudio3 - you could check the 'My Documents' radio buitton instead or Define a specific layout file to use in an admin.ini file (more information here: http://uk.prometheankb.com/article.aspx?article=304565&p=10121) Hope this helps!
Luke_T Posted April 27, 2010 Author Posted April 27, 2010 (edited) On the non-working PC I cannot access the program at all ... so cannot access the settings. On an identical machine that is still working, set up in exactly the same way these are the settings I have: http://img130.imageshack.us/img130/12/activstudioprofilesetti.th.png These are set to the My Docs radio button, but with N:\Activstudio3 greyed out in the box below. If it makes any difference, My Docs is mapped to N:\ Will look at admin.inin file now Edited April 27, 2010 by Luke_T
cmssbrie Posted April 27, 2010 Posted April 27, 2010 (edited) Ahhh - ok, On the non working machine, can you: Go to the users 'My Documents -> ActivStudio' folder, and delete any file with the extension .ini and .a3l and try again. Also, click on Start -> Run and type in: "regsvr32 scrrun.dll" (without quotes) and press enter, and then try launching again. If that doesn't work, can you go into C:\Program Files\ActivSoftware\ActivStudio 3 - and you will see two executable files - 1 is the normal one (AS3.5PE.exe), and the other is a debug version (AS35PED.exe) - run the debug, and it should say where the program is falling over.
