Haptic Posted April 20, 2010 Author Posted April 20, 2010 (coughnotFREE!!!!cough) cough split hairs cough !!!
mb2k01 Posted April 20, 2010 Posted April 20, 2010 cough split hairs cough !!! Fair comment really. Free should mean free, not spend £200+ first! (Don't get me wrong I know you will have meant well, and I'm not meaning to be offensive or kick off a huge debate... just supporting the comment above!) 1
Haptic Posted April 21, 2010 Author Posted April 21, 2010 i have edited the post and removed the word free fella's
powdarrmonkey Posted April 21, 2010 Posted April 21, 2010 IANAL and I hate to be awkward... but is this a non-free, non-skill competition?
Haptic Posted April 21, 2010 Author Posted April 21, 2010 OK before this spirals into a cataclysmic debate over 'proper' usage of words in an otherwise normal promotion please ask yourselves a question (by jove...even take a while to ponder) Do I wish to enter? If the answer is no, you could fervently track down our previous winners/losers and ask if they thought it fair..alternatively you could find another way to occupy the apparent glut of free time you appear to have (and yes Tony I mean you too!) To everyone else I bid you good luck Joe Aucott
GrumbleDook Posted April 21, 2010 Posted April 21, 2010 Hi Joe ... do I wish I could enter? Yes ... If it was free could I? Yes ... Was I disappointed to see that I couldn't due to procurement and purchasing practices not allowing me (and many others) to purchase from a supplier with the intent on personal gain? Yes. Do I have free time to raise the point that many schools would take a dim view of intentionally ordering from a certain supplier for personal gain but trying to do it in a tongue in cheek manner as people already think I have something against CP? Yes. Am I sure that many existing customers of CP will take benefit of this competition because they were going to purchase from you anyway since they get good prices and good service? Yes. Do I want people to think a bit more carefully about how they purchase things and the opportunity of BSF bidders slinging mud about how IT support are feathering their own nests, giving further justification about why buying from an MSP at a fixed price over a long term offering stops people making purchases from certain suppliers purely for personal gain (rather than the fact that it is often a far more cost effective and flexible option to be able to get multiple quotes from several suppliers)? Yes. Is this a very touchy subject which, if raised as a discussion point in the policies section would get next to no contribution because too many people are scared to own up that they might cut corners on this and avoid the subject (and I will be first to hold my hands up to some previous bad practices ... we've all done it and some of us have come a cropper). Yes ... I do think people don't want to talk about it.
GrumbleDook Posted April 21, 2010 Posted April 21, 2010 i have edited the post and removed the word free fella's Thanks for amending it .. much appreciated.
Haptic Posted April 21, 2010 Author Posted April 21, 2010 "..before this spirals into a cataclysmic debate.." Ooooof
Haptic Posted April 21, 2010 Author Posted April 21, 2010 Personally I am struggling to see any refrence to the prize being for personal gain this prize can be used for the schools gain im sure!
FN-GM Posted April 21, 2010 Posted April 21, 2010 (edited) Surely it wouldn't be the fault of CP if someone did use it for their own gain. The company should trust customers do the right thing. If the original product was purchased using schools money, the prize belongs to school. If the original product was purchased using personal money, the prize belongs to the individual. Should someone buy the original items using schools money then wins the prize and keeps it for themselves, thats hardly the fault of CP. I purchase personal stuff from CP sometimes im sure other do as well. Its not only schools that get stuff from them. Edited April 21, 2010 by FN-GM spelling error
GrumbleDook Posted April 21, 2010 Posted April 21, 2010 Ok ... rather than detract from the prize draw I've started another thread. http://www.edugeek.net/forums/school-ict-policies/54578-how-do-you-choose-who-buy.html
