Iain.Faulkner Posted April 22, 2010 Posted April 22, 2010 I'm taking delivery tonight of the first bike I've owned since I was 16 when I was hit by a car (12 years ago!). Looking forward to a nice long hot sunny summer now so I can get some use on it :-)
mjs_mjs Posted April 25, 2010 Posted April 25, 2010 hummm it's a 20 min walk for me - is it really worth it? i do cycle sometimes if i'm up late - it is quicker but i get a little warm.
beeswax Posted April 25, 2010 Posted April 25, 2010 Been cycling 22 miles round trip all year round for the last 2 years (appart from laundry refresh bus trips and the odd time i need a car for meetings). just rode into the side of a bus today for some strange reason Frontside bus?
Batman Posted April 26, 2010 Author Posted April 26, 2010 That's amusing because I've always had really good waterproofs except for my feet, which is kind of the opposite to what you're saying. I heard that peaks on cycling helmets can make them less effective in an impact. There's a difference though between my commute to work and going on a long ride. If I'm on a long ride I won't bother with waterproofs, I'll get warm enough from the cycling without being boiled in my waterproofs... but my ride to work isn't long enough to get drenched in sweat. Or to justify a whole change of clothes when I get there.

tmcd35 Posted April 30, 2010 Posted April 30, 2010 Aldi have some "Special Buys" on Cycle gear starting next week (may be in some stores now) ALDI - Thursday Special Buys 6th May 2010 Sports Direct do some good quality cycling shorts and tees at very very good prices. Just ordered a load myself and very impressed with th quality especially when compared to the tat I paid 3 times the price for from Evans Cycles!
Rydra Posted April 30, 2010 Posted April 30, 2010 Just saw the cylcing shorts advertised O_O. Might pop down there and pickup some of the less 'revealing' items though, they look ok for the <2miles I need to do to work each day, but haven't yet managed. The school just invested in a new bike shed, but it's not been finished properly, so cannot use it yet Plus my dad nicked my extra-sized bike lock (since I have a full suspension Carerra Banshee with quick lock wheels, need to chain them both up). I work within walking distance of where my wife works, but it's slightly too far for me to walk home (about a 40 minute walk from work to home). It's under 10 minutes by car, or about 15-20 minutes max by bike.
