6Foot2 Posted April 13, 2010 Posted April 13, 2010 The BBC archive has released documents which detail audience reaction to the arrival of a new Doctor. Link: BBC - Archive - THE CHANGING FACE OF DOCTOR WHOTHE CHANGING FACE OF DOCTOR WHO - Radio Times, 25-31 May 1996 Nearly Who 1
tech_guy Posted April 13, 2010 Posted April 13, 2010 I really lost interest in Dr. Who after Tom Baker, whom I think did a magnificent job. [sarcasm] How about Nick Clegg as the next timelord? He's rather like a clueless schoolteacher who really doesn't have any idea of how he came to be where he is and what is the significance of what is going on around him. And, we could have Sophie Dahl as his assistant as that's all she's really cut out for.... [/sarcasm]
jcollings Posted April 13, 2010 Posted April 13, 2010 Those documents are brilliant! I love this one BBC - Archive - THE CHANGING FACE OF DOCTOR WHO - Audience Reaction Report for 'Doctor Who' for 1987. where it talks about Bonnie Langford Excellent stuff!
6Foot2 Posted April 13, 2010 Author Posted April 13, 2010 I really lost interest in Dr. Who after Tom Baker, whom I think did a magnificent job. Re: Tom and his contribution: Could not agree more. Thought Peter Davidson was pretty bad. Colin Baker: Awful. Sylvester McCoy: Bad but an improvement on Colin Baker [some dreadful stories though] I lost track of the program part way through Sylvester McCoy's tenure [during my degree] Paul McGann: Back on board for this story and I wish I hadn't bothered. Christopher Ecclestone: Annoying with his 'Fantastic!' catch phrase. But he did have a hard job: To revive the series after a long hiatus. David Tennant: Likeable but also had annoying traits. Matt Smith: Too early to tell. Some of the this which influence how the audience react are out of the hands of the lead character [Look at the John Nathan-Turner years!]
LeMarchand Posted April 13, 2010 Posted April 13, 2010 I'll go against the general consensus of opinion and admit that I stopped watching during the Tom Baker years; I found him annoying and overly "comedic". Started watching again when he left.

russdev Posted April 14, 2010 Posted April 14, 2010 (edited) It is an interesting read the site I was looking at on my phone on the way home last night. Anyway we all know the last series (of the original) was best mainly because Sophie Aldred was in it Russ Edited April 14, 2010 by russdev
