Dansguardian disable caching?

We use IPCop with the Cop+ addon to do our content filtering but I've been thinking about how it might work with Moodle in the last few days.

 

Correct me if I'm wrong but if DG caches our Moodle site tutors' course pages won't udpate in real-time and so on, cue much confusion and keyboard bashing?

 

Thing is I can't see how to disable either the proxy or the cache without disabling DG... any ideas?

You could edit squid.conf and set the cache size to 0... (dg itself doesn't cache). On the other hand, if Moodle behaves properly, you shouldn't see any such problems, as squid will always check that a page isn't updated before serving a cached version.

Dansguardian is a filter not a proxy. It does not 'cache' anything. That is Squids job. You can control what and how long Squid caches things in various ways, but to answer your specific question Squid by default will adhere to the HTTP headers that Moodle sends. In particular the expire and cache control headers. You can of course override this behaviour. Here's the relevant section of the squid manual.
