sacrej Posted April 12, 2010 Posted April 12, 2010 well...technically its the same physical server, but we want to rebuild it with 2008, the machine runs sql server 2005 on which there is a database called SOPHOS, how do I go about backing up all the data and then reinstating it on the new server? Thanks
MYK-IT Posted April 12, 2010 Posted April 12, 2010 Hi Sacrej, It can be done, migrating the SQL Database etc. I am sure there are tech articles on the Sophos website detailing the process. I did the same thing a few months back, but to be honest i just made note of the policies etc and rebuilt the server from scratch, installed and configured Enterprise Console and setup up AD synch etc, then re-applied policies / settings accordingly.
adamf Posted April 12, 2010 Posted April 12, 2010 I rekon your better of making notes and building it from scratch again. As part of a network restructure I changed the IP of our Sophos server only to find that after doing so none of our clients would communicate with the serer anymore! Turns out that the IP addresses and DNS name gets embedded into a registry key on the client and doesn't get updated if you make a change to the server. After going to Sophos support they suggested the only course of action was to rebuild.
nibulon Posted April 16, 2010 Posted April 16, 2010 This time last year i migrated out sophos console onto a new box and upgraded to version 3 at the same time. Followed guide at Enterprise Console: upgrading to the latest version, and migrating the console and configuration to a new 32-bit server. Although skimming through the link above just now it mentions v4 now so they've probably updated it since i used it. Worked like a charm with no problems as far as i can recall, Hope it helps.
