When i'm having to update a mac suite (10.5), as all clients are the same original image build and hardware type i sit at one, run software update locally on a client, select download packages only, copy them from the client (cant remember off top of my head where they get saved to) up onto the server and use ARD to push out the update packages as a remote install to the rest of the suite. saves me logging into each machine and updates are still only downloaded the once, i keep them in a dated folder with the suite name for future reff also - not sure what would happen if an update was pushed out to a client and not required if it would force install it or not and cause a problem - but a bit of planning and checking and I've not had any problems doing this so far - not done this for a while though. I kept the software update server pointing to an incorrect update source setting so the clients normally dont see any updates available to them and wont bug users with the 'update available for install' message on apps start up. Just wish the Macs had a WSUS style arrangement, much better in my opinion. Hope it helps

This time last year i migrated out sophos console onto a new box and upgraded to version 3 at the same time. Followed guide at Enterprise Console: upgrading to the latest version, and migrating the console and configuration to a new 32-bit server. Although skimming through the link above just now it mentions v4 now so they've probably updated it since i used it. Worked like a charm with no problems as far as i can recall, Hope it helps.

Have been looking for a way to set the 'show all folders' option enabled from the right mouse click on the explorer navigation pane today, couldnt find anything so went looking for the regkey myself. Thought i'd share it here to save anyone else some work. If anyone knows a 'proper' Group policy setting to avoid the registry mod im setting through group policy it'd be appreciated but my googling has thus far been fruitless, hence the trawl through the registry today. have found the reg key relating to the desktop control pannel icon, not sure if its been mentioned elsewhere, ive not seen it when searching today and dug around and found key for myself... [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Desktop\NameSpace\{5399E694-6CE5-4D6C-8FCE-1D8870FDCBA0}] Deleting this folder and the reg key it contians, refresh desktop and control pannel has gone. Hope it helps someone

I've just setup a windows 7 test machine this week myself - both wake on lan and psshutdown worked fine for me with no tinkering with drivers and settings, using the same .exe's i use on the production XP domain.
