win7 not showing laptop power options

Hi folks,

 

Ive just wiped an old toshiba laptop and put windows 7 home premium on it. All seems to be working fine apart from the fact that it doesn't display the normal laptop power options - battery in sys tray, power options for running on mains and on battery.

 

Ive had a trawl through the control panel but cannot see anything anywhere? Ive installed win 7 on many a laptop and never come across anything like this.

Is the 'Power' service running?

Just checked that and the service is running.

 

Damm, there's me thinking that was an easy fix!

ok it may not be it, but is all your drivers installed?

 

I know with Toshiba laptops, there seems to be a driver for acpi a lot of the time... Now im gussing if thats not installed it may not show up

Hi folks,

 

Back on this one after it become a bit of a pain in the backside as there was no way of know how long the battery had left and the poniwer kept dropping out!!

 

In the device manager I had one unidentified device so went down the route of adding a new driver and selecting it from the list supplied by MS. I added Micosoft AC adapter, Microsoft ACPI-Compliant control method battery and composite battery.

 

This seems to removed the unidentified device and I can now put the laptop into sleep and hibernate mode so there is a bit of progress. In the system tray I have the battery indicator but it has a redcross on it saying battery unidentified.

 

Anyone any ideas. Thanks in advance
