Stuart_C Posted April 6, 2010 Posted April 6, 2010 I've set my quota's up on my new shiney 2K8 R2 server but I'm having a problem. The quota's seem to be enforcing however when I log in a as a user and look at the properties of their home area I see the Total Disk Usage/Free space for the whole disk their area's sit on rahter than the Quota Limit/Space used by user as was the case for my 2K3 servers. Why and how do I sort it so that it only shows how much space they are taking up and their quota limit?
round2it Posted April 6, 2010 Posted April 6, 2010 its the same with 2003 as well not looked into it as it was a minor issue
glennda Posted April 6, 2010 Posted April 6, 2010 yeah it just shows the size of the logical drive - so in my case it looks like my docs is over 200gb! server 2003 r2
Stuart_C Posted April 6, 2010 Author Posted April 6, 2010 I could have sworn that my 2K3 server only showed the quota limit...
bio Posted April 7, 2010 Posted April 7, 2010 I'll bet you have set quota's with FSRM ? If you do it the "old" way by setting it on a volume (righclick the volume - quota) you will not have this problem. read this: The Storage Team at Microsoft - File Cabinet Blog : Why disk space is incorrectly reported on folders where File Server Resource Manager quotas are enabled bio... 1
Stuart_C Posted April 7, 2010 Author Posted April 7, 2010 You get today's gold star! Cheers for that. Yes I had created the Quota's using FSRM. When I created it the old way it reported correctly for my XP clients. I take it from the article that you posted that if I'm using 7 then it won't be a problem. Any downside you can forsee to me setting both quota's. I like the reporting with FSRM where it E-mails the users telling them about duplicate and large files.

Windows 2008 r2 on the serverside with XP on the clientside. To my knowledge you won't run into trouble configuring it bothways, but i would test it before putting it in production. Would love to hear the outcome though. good luck bio..
Stuart_C Posted April 9, 2010 Author Posted April 9, 2010 I'll let you know when the pupil's come back on the 20th. Seems OK. I've implimented it and it looks OK. My home dirve now displays properly, though I suspect I won't know whether it works or not until somone gets close to their quota limit. As I've quadroupled the pupil's storage limit that may take a while. 1
