Theres an old Perl script floating around t'net. Someone had compiled into an exe with a couple of simple command line parameters (IP and Display Message). I've zipped the exe I found and my on/off .bat files.

so run the .exe and then run the on batch file after editing it t our ips ?

Just edit the batch file for your IP's and the message you want. The batch file will run the exe so just make sure they are in the same dir. I did it this way so I can quickly do half a dozen printers at once, on/off at will, rather than keep typing the exe on the command line.

I shall be working late tonight.... IN fact so late, I think most of the staff will have gone....

By the time they return in the morning, the entire staffroom will have reversed itself... :p

Sadly, I won't be able to do anything tomorrow :( We are doing child protection training, with an external agency training us. Means I'm not allowed to upset anyone.

Pah!

I've settled for changing the READY message on a selection of HP printers askint the user to REPLACE WHITE TONER. Meh, it'd do.

Anyone else planning that one would do well to test in advance - many HP printers have a 16-character limit on the status message and will cut if off at "REPLACE WHITE TO". As an alternative, I humbly suggest "WHITE TONER OUT".

I went with 'Insert Cheese' and 'Out of onions' last year.

Noticed this today when i tested the script on our 3600 HP, although one thing i noticed is when you put the message back to "Ready" the toner percentage icons disappear, however switching on/off the printer puts them back :D

just been around and stuck the voice command notices on the majority of our copiers and printers :p

  • Done the voice command on the photocopier :D
  • Changed the liquid soap with yoghurt (with the assistance of the site agent)
  • Redirected EVERY http:// request to a page that says the internet is down for maintenance
  • Sent a message to the head (looking VERY official) saying that Google is taking a picture of the school from above to update Google earth and the kids should stand in a way that spells a word that is important to the school
  • Changed all of the backgrounds to a generated BSOD and hidden the icons and start bar via GPO
  • And set the projector images to be upside down back to front

Muahahahahaha :D

With regards to the google image thing... that actually happend here a few years back, our ict coordinator at the time arranged, on international peace day, for the kids to go out on the field and spell out PEACE, while he nipped back in to take a screen grab of google maps...

Now if you were "evil" you would have stuck a video clip of the lottery in Sony Vegas and edited it so the correct numbers came out and then sent it to them! I would ROFL at that!
