But the service Apple give compared to ANY other manufacturer I know of is second to none, and they just to the job well .. Plus, buy it as a staff member and of course it will be a bit cheaper because of the nice educational discount (which isn't much, but hey, it's something )

I have a Windows Domain at work but work entirely on a MacBook while there! It may seem expensive but like said above the service is also what you pay for! I had a Squeaky hinge on my MacBook went to the Apple Store and they swapped the whole LCD Display! Try getting that at PC World! Very Happy!

In that case, it's not exactly a small beast, but one of the HP ProBook 4510s (http://www.hp.com/hpinfo/newsroom/press_kits/2009/Mobility2009/Datasheet-Datasheet.4510s.pdf) or whatever the current model is something I could recommend too. We got ours through our supplier for £450 each not so long ago. Nice machines, full size keyboards on them, and not too heavy. Worth a look in my opinion.

Try getting that at the Apple Store I took an Apple into the Genius Bar just last week with a faulty SuperDrive - HALF AN HOUR LATER I walked out of said Apple store with the MacBook with a fully fitted and working new SuperDrive in it .. Try getting that at Dell .. *all joking aside, I prefer Macs, always have done, but it's down to personal preference at the end of the day .. if you prefer Mac they are well worth spending the money, if you prefer D(H)ell, then spend your money on that, there's no point in any point of life in spending money on something you're not going to be happy using! * Man I'm sounding old there ..

My home laptop, a Dell, has a 5 year next day warranty, which touch wood has yet to be used! So I would expect that level of service. My dell is WAY better spec than the MBP (better CPU,BluRay etc) and at just under £700 including the warranty less than half the MBP. So, why is the Mac still better? hang on.... If your buying this to use at work then why dont you get them to buy it? I sure as hell wouldnt be using my personal laptop at work... Didnt think I did say I was buying it with my own money? I said I couldnt afford it, as in out of my ICT budget

They’ve even got a bunch of dandy features like multi-touch, back lit keyboards, and innovative graphical user interfaces. Great. Owning one however, shouldn’t evoke a self-important smugness and sense of superiority any more than a pair of socks would. Normally this would be regarded as a general rule of thumb: buy a computer for its features and performance. Not to become better than everyone else while enjoying the smell of your own bowel movements.

Build quality (Aliminium body, nicer keyboard, multitouch touchpad etc) Shame you can only use it on Apple hardware 3xbroken Magsafe PSU's @ £80 each Warped Aluminum case Dodgy slot load DVD-RW Processor fans deliberatly! run at half speed causing over heating when converting video files I love OS X but I'd neve buy another Apple laptop. Have a Tosh L350D at the moment. Dual-Core AMD, 8Gb Ram (upgraded to), 500Gb HDD (upgraded to). Seriously considering ditching Win 7 for Ubuntu 10.4 when it's released and run my Windows requirements in a VM or 4.

(Might be wrong though) It also has switchable graphics, meaning that you can press a function key to switch between your integrated graphics and your NVidia G210M.

A computer should be fit for purpose, not fit for showing off .. if it's not fit for purpose, what is the point in owning it in the first place? For me, my Mac is fit for purpose, but if I found something I needed a PC for instead, I would look to buy a PC for that requirement.
