One Keyboard two computers

Have two computers on your desk? always use the wrong keyboard?

 

Found this today Synergy means you can use one keyboard and mouse for your two computers - i have it set up so i can scroll from my dual screen windows box onto the linux box next to it!

I think my colleague had that running for a bit last year (maybe longer, time flies in this place!). Seemed to work really well, we used it before we got all of our remote desktop stuff working.

My Debian AM wrote about synergy a while ago: My Boss, with a little help, starts the conversion to Linux - Source Guru

 

I haven't got round to trying it though, I have a four-way KVM for my test rig

For anyone using Macs, the alternative (apart from a KVM of course) is Teleport.

Blimey... I found AdderView KVM's way back in 1999 and the little box is still going strong while the cheaper POS versions from linksys last maybe 9 months before carking and being circular filed.

its better then a kvm - you don't need to constantly press buttons just move the mouse onto the left screen as if you would using a dual screen

But i have *nix and command line boxes (ESX) etc that it wont work on!

i dont on my kvm i just double tap ctrl (left or right ctrl depending which way i want to scroll through the 4 pcs)

A KVM and this software are for slightly different things. I use synergy when developing or controlling two different pcs each with their own dedicated monitor, A kvm is more for usage when you are sharing the monitor as well but you can use it in the way described above. I find it great for controlling two different systems with the one mouse and sometimes use it if needing to seamlessly move from a linux box to a windows one with the same mouse and keyboard.

I have just discovered Synery. Wow.

 

I always have my laptop sitting on my desk next to my, and now if I need to use it I dont even need to move

Yh i have to day synergy makes life so much easier as ive got a Linux box add Also a .win 7 box on my desk so 1 keyboard/mouse is great

I've just had a quote for this... US$40 per PC for 1 year, US$20 per PC per year thereafter for maintenance. Ouch
