glennda Posted March 11, 2010 Posted March 11, 2010 I have a Have a DL180 g5 and the only available slots on the riser card are PCIE X8 i have never seen one before and have looked on google to see if i can find a network card to go into it (preferably dual port) but i can't seem to find it. Does anyone know where i can get one from? Thanks Toby
3s-gtech Posted March 11, 2010 Posted March 11, 2010 Intel Gigabit ET Dual Port Server PCI-e Adapter - Ebuyer - I'm not sure you'll find any, even quad port, that use full x8 bandwidth, but some quad port cards are x4. 1
glennda Posted March 11, 2010 Author Posted March 11, 2010 i did see them but will they work in an X8 slot?
jamesreedersmith Posted March 11, 2010 Posted March 11, 2010 an x8 slot support x2, x4 or x8 but an x4 slot will only support x2 or x4 etc. 1
Soulfish Posted March 11, 2010 Posted March 11, 2010 PCI-Express slots are backwards compatible, so a x1 card will fit in all slots, x2 in all but x1 slots etc.
Norphy Posted March 11, 2010 Posted March 11, 2010 an x8 slot support x2, x4 or x8 but an x4 slot will only support x2 or x4 etc. Not strictly true. Sometimes motherboards come with open-ended PCIe slots which allow to put an higher rated card in a lower rated slot. It just means the device only gets the amount of bandwidth the slot can give it.
