Just been to my local Vauxhall dealer - just got £3,500 on my old crappy car !!

If you want a good deal the scrappage amount has gone up as they are trying to get rid of the money thats in the pot.....

So if you want a good deal, NOW is the time.

I thought the scrappage scheme was 2k. 1k from gunment and 1k from the manufacturer. What car did you trade-in ?

I got a great deal at the end of December with my local Peugeot dealership. I didn't get the new car until January but escaped the VAT increase and the car I traded in under the scrappage scheme was 19 years old and worth £0 and I paid £2k for it back in 1998 so as far as I'm concerned I got my money back!

Nooooooo!

Hahaha just kidding I don't care what you got.

I guess I could take my clapped out mondeo in. Trouble is I'm not planning to ever spend even half of £3,500 on a car...!

I don't do many miles in my car as I spend most of my time on my 650, the car is used to ferry the kids around at weekends. My 10 year old Nissan which now requires work on a yearly basis is just not up to the task anymore and I would rather have car which I know for 3 years will have a warranty etc.

Oh I'm with you on that. I went to Oxford last weekend fully expecting that the clutch would croak or the head gasket would go or something like that... got there and back but I think that's as far as I dare take the old banger. It's a long walk home from there!

To be fair I might spend more than £1750 on a car, my Vectra cost me £2000 and it was brilliant. I will always regret selling it to my brother (who treats it like a rubbish dump :() but I couldn't afford to run a car when I first started working at the school so I had to sell it.

I'm a bit worried about myself but I'm beginning to think the best car for my needs may be a Renault Kangoo... (!)

I have fantasies about the Nissan Cube. I must be getting old.

Must be ?

You don't want to end up with egg on your face do you ? Oh hang on.....

Every time I hear about Kangoo's I think of Saxondale:

Was hoping to limp to August when my car would be 10 years old but it didn't make it. Repairs would of cost £600 so I part exchanged it on a 2 year old focus. I don't think scrappage would have lasted until August anyway.

I think it finishes for more car dealers this Tuesday. I only went on the off chance of getting a good deal and I had my limits in regards to payment - so when the offer of £3500 for my 10 year old car was offered, I bit the salesmen hand off !!

My car second hand maybe £700 to £1000 tops - so an offer ' too good to be true ' as they say - was in fact rather good and real and why I have been going around this weekend with a smug look on my face.......;)

Great littel vans - go for miles and can fit loads and loads in!!

PS - not doing the whole change of name thing though!!

The manufacturer can decide how much they wish to offer, with a minimum of £1k.

Guess none of you live in Stoke then - most of the car garages ended this on 28th Feb and it was a max of £2k unless you part exed something aswell, apparently the new boiler scrappage scheme is going to be brought in for March...unless that's just what they told my friend to make her panic buy. I won't have owned my old banger for a year until May so I'm going to miss out!!

One question though, is your new car £3,500 cheaper than it was before the scrappage scheme? A lot of manure-facturers have raised their prices since the scrappage scheme came in.

I have no idea, I just know I got the car that will suit my family better. cheaper insurance, cheaper tax, better safety record, 3 year warrenty, so if the car was £3500 cheaper last year I am still better off.

My old car [ 10 years old ] was getting to the stage where it was not worth repairing and instead of getting £900 for it, I got £3500 with all the above chucked in and my car tax paid for a year.....

Shame I could not do it for an old 250 I had rusting away in my garage...... Still my 650 has around 7 years left in it.

Wanted to trade my old boiler in but she was having none of it.

In ASDA with her the notice said look after your old bags, told the checkout lady I do.

Good job she has a sense of humour or I wouldn't dare sleep.
