Optiplex 320 front not working

I have replaced the front USB unit on this Optiplex 320 after somebody mashed the USBs by careless use of a memory key. Now the usbs won't work. I have checked they're switched on in BIOS and every thing's connected properly, still no joy. All seems to be working in Device manager. All the back usbs are in use with a printer, an IWB etc, etc, so I'm stuck.

Any ideas?

The USB contoller itself may be damaged by the 'mashing', yet still reporting that all is hunky-dorey. Are the back ports working too?

USB port replicator to increase the number of available ports [assuming the USB controller IS still working]

 

Or as an alternative: Replace the USB board at the front [again assuming the USB controller is working]

 

Edit: Or add a USB card into the one free slot: Check the half height/full height situation: As I recall the Optiplex 170s take a half-height card [i think?]
