In all fairness its probably not apples doing. They will contract to work out to other companies

Ahh, it may not be their fault, however it still tarnishes their image, as they are the ones at the end paying everyone's bills.

 

Indirect bad publicity, and doesn't surprise me at all.

 

Model for all big companies would be, cut profits slightly, manufacture in home country, create jobs, security and general well being, and reap the rewards from that, but alas its all about profit and the works sent off to the cheapest country.

Interesting thing is, Apple is the only company to do an audit on their chinese factories, and then report their findings - which is admirable.

 

The issue is now what Apple does about it. Which, I suspect, will be focussed tightly on individual cases and not ensure overall systemic change. ie. Lip service.

 

Apple will not be the only one using factories breaking basic human rights laws, minimum wage laws and maximum working hour laws. More likely, most companies who manufacture in China will have these issues - simply because the factory owners will want to cut as many corners as possible, regardless of what their clients tell them to do. More corners cut is more profit.

Not all these breaches are in China, if you read the report and location, you'll notice there are other factories for example Czech Rep, Thailand and the likes, and I'm sure Apple aren't the only company doing this and reporting, the media just doesn't care about anyone else apart from the big players.
