I wondered if they would try to kill Vista early, looks like they will it's only gold at the mo but..... IMO they should offer all Vista users a free upgrade to 7 i'm sure that would make their life easier as well.

They aren't ending support for Vista, they're ending support for Vista without SP's installed. If you have an SP installed, then your support carries on as normal.

Inded, still, it will be interesting to see what happens by the end of this year. They aren't going to ditch it as fast as they did with ME, because of it's presence in the business world, but I've no doubt there will be future 'incentives' to move over to 7 and hasten it's demise. Besides supporting Vista takes up time, resources and cash. It would be much simpler to support the newer and more favorable OS.

Yep that's what I ment by "looks like they will it's only gold at the mo but" as in the gold release as MS refer to it.

i would have thought the big milestone here is the end-of-updates for Windows 2000.

 

i'm sure it's still very relevant in big organisations.

I noticed on one of those cop shows the other day, the police cars they had with their ANPR systems were running on 2000. So, it is still in use definitely!

My brother works for a very big company, and he's had win2k on his work laptop for as long as i can remember.

 

Wonder what the logical upgrade is.....windows 7 upgrade with XP downgrade rights.

This is a little misleading.

 

Windows XP SP3 is still going to be supported and the only version of Vista being dropped is the pre-SP1 version which IMHO anyone running that version wants their head examining anyhow.

 

Beware of sales hype saying XP is not supported as I can see that coming.
