Editing AD from a WIndows 7 machine

WOnder if someone can explain to me how to edit the AD from a Windows 7.

 

I've loaded gpedit.msc but this is only giving me the local configuration. I'm sure I've read that I can edit the AD from a WIndows 7 machine.

you'll need the admin tools installed to do this.

You need to install to adminpak from the servers install disk - your machine will need o be a domain member as well if it isnt already.

 

GPedit is for the local GP not domain.

Did you just load the "gpedit.msc" or go through the Active Directory Users and Computers / Group Policy Management Console?

 

If you loaded the gpedit manually, all it will show you is local policy.

Yes I've downloaded RSAT but it will not connect to my remote server. Our domain is 2003R2 - I know 2008/R2 is better but I was told that editing admx files is okay on a 2003 domain from a Windows 7 machine.

 

Just cannot access the damn things
