Mac on a windows domain

if you go into finder see if anything is mounted on the computer or click on the username

This has raised some good questions in my brain.

 

Our macs are AD bound and OD Bound (apples version) and that works differently ( not by much)

 

just tried my laptop just being bound to the AD but not the OD and with the "use unc path......." and it mounted as a folder down on the right hand side of the dock

 

one thing id suggest checking is the format of your unc of the home direcotry in AD users and computers

 

what format do you have it in

 

apple suggest having it as a full address ie

 

\\server.apple.com\users\jmay

 

give this a try

Yeah when I had this problem under each user in AD I had to ensure that the path to there home directory was similiar ( In our case the users directory was a hidden share ) so

 

\\Server\$Users\%username%

 

where %username% is literally the AD user name / account name ( Joe Bloggs generally ( depending on your naming convention ) would become JBloggs

Not sure if DFS works or not - if you try it direct to the server and see if that makes any difference for one account ?

DFS from what i remember certainly didnt work on the older versions of osx and nothing i can find on the net points to this being changed

yes sorry, that was my poor attempt at making it an example

 

If you go futher into macs in the future with a mac server integration, having it as a .local domain might cause hiccups but shouldnt cause any problems at this time

yeah on every attempt

 

all ive got is a local user area with folders such as desktop documents downloads library etc etc

 

that ? i had earlier hasnt reappeard and nothing is there in its place

i turned on the mobile account again and hey presto theres my files

now to get this email working... do our servers need any specific services running?

if you look back in my posts theres one about osx and exchange and that tell you what you nee to have running for the mail.app program to talk nicely to it, interms of entourage, head over to macbu.com

its all talking about exchange 2007 and were running 2003, im guessing it wont work?
