lew_bob Posted February 23, 2010 Posted February 23, 2010 (edited) Hey chaps and chap'ets, need a bit of help. I 'd like our VLE to have student areas with info on clubs and general student fun stuff to do, also one for staff. We currently use uniservity and I can do this with this system dispite it being so damn bad and slow. I have seen RM displayed, but when I asked RM about things such as teachers having there subject areas to upload stuff, ie history clips for history, history latest news, trips etc all the things that makes VLE's fun for actual children the RM guys stared blankly back at me without seeming to know anything other than 'spaces' a strange Idea that seems to take all the fun out of VLE's. Basicly we want the VLE to the be half website and be quite dynamic, being regulary updated with the latest news, visual things etc etc etc. Any help, advice? Edited February 23, 2010 by lew_bob
jamesmay Posted February 23, 2010 Posted February 23, 2010 Have a look at It's Learning, its very good!
jcollings Posted February 23, 2010 Posted February 23, 2010 Sharepoint is pretty good for most things we find.
andy_nic Posted February 23, 2010 Posted February 23, 2010 (edited) Are you talking about RM's Kaleidos? If so then it’s based on SharePoint so you have interest spaces, for clubs and subjects then you have the VLE and learning spaces within the VLE. if you have any questions, feel free to PM me. il try to answer any of your questions best i can. lew_bob Posted March 3, 2010 Author Posted March 3, 2010 Had a meeting today with someone. Must say second time around things seem much clearer and the presentation was a hell of a lot better! I got some free test play logins to play around with.
echo Posted March 4, 2010 Posted March 4, 2010 Yeah, I agree the place to do this kind of thing is within the Interest Spaces on Kaleidos. The nice thing with them is that you can give full control to any user you like and they can manage the space themselves. The discussions and surveys are really good ways to get staff and students interacting and using the Learning Platform. I have to admin i've not had much luck with the Blogs and Wikis yet, but I need to think of a good reason to use them. PM me if you would like to know how we are using it over here.
