I guess that you briefly vary the rotor speed on one side versus the other to create a tilt, them increase power to go in the direction that you are now tilted. However, because there is no obvious front and back or left and right (especially once it is more than a few yards away) i can't see how an operator would know which way to operate the controls to move it in a given direction? Also, whilst differential GPS can give very accurate positioning in the horizontal plane, i am surprised that it can maintain a constant (within a couple of feet) height above the ground. Still, sod logic and common sense - i also want one Cheers, mb

Actually, similar devices have been around for a little while now - there's quite a lot of interest and development going in to them for use as military and law-enforcement unmanned drones. UK police forces are going to start getting unmanned drones soon, ones large enough to potentially mount things like Tasers, and the number of unmanned drones bought by the US military has just started outnumbering the number of conventional manned aircraft. US military drones can mount air-to-air and air-to-ground missiles, and can stay in position for 24 hours at a time, switching crews (who work remotely, from desks in the US) as needed. The interesting bit is going to come when criminals start using drones too and we get miniature dogfights above our cities... -- David Hicks

You could triangulate that line, couldn't you. The device in that video already carried a high-resolution camera, and could carry a further 1 litre bottle of Coke with no apparent problem. You can simply transmit the footage from the camera live to the pilot, they can steer it exactly as they would if they were sat in the aircraft itself. I have a horrible feeling a Coke add exec is going to see that video and think "Hey, we could make airborne Coke-delivery machines!..." -- David Hicks

The device that was shown on the news had four rotors, rather than six. It was featured because some regulations had changed recently which made their use by the Police illegal. It was something to do with new Aviation regulations and the Police hadn't been aware of the change.
