ID in Footer of Printed doc

We have a few printers on our school network and the problem is pupils randomly print off big pictures etc and waste the toners.

Ive been asked if its possible to put the username of the person printing the doc at the footer of the page? i dont want to go down the seperator page route for obvious reasons

 

Is this possible and is it easy to implement ?

I asked a similar question a few years ago. There was no easy way of doing it. I think the school went down the print monitoring route in the end.

there was a modified normal.dot file that would work for word, but that only covers one application

Another +1 for the Print Logger if you just want to see who's printed what when. They also have a paid version which you can set print limits and other useful things.

 

Certainly it is a must to get a print server if you want to do some sort of print logging, unless your printer has any logs on board (I know we had some HPs that did some basic print loggin, but there is only a certain amount of room on a printers memory so the logs were only ever at most half a day back). Even if you just have an old box you plug the printer into and share it that way out then you can run the print logger on that box (depends on your setup I guess).

Correct, unless you want to install it on all your work stations and have millions of different log files.

It maybe worth buying it for the price they offer as it will pay for itself overall, there is another prog called printer peer will look at that too.
