I need to add a desktop shortcut available to all staff logons. I'm thinking this can be done by editing a setting in the staff folder Group Policy but can't see where it is - any pointers please.

if they all have local/redirected/roaming non mandatory profiles might be easier to just script copying the file into their logon script

If you have the Group Policy Preference Client installed on all workstations and have a server 2008/Windows Vista Machine then you can use Group Policy Preferences to send a shortcut out and filter it for whoever you want. It's currently how I've put the SIMS shortcut on Staff Desktops to keep them happy (otherwise it takes to long to load SIMS )

Thanks Cache,

That's of particular interest for my other school which has SIMS and wants to make it available to 3 other workstations. The curriculum server is 2008 but Unfortunately the Admin server is 2003!

Use a batch script and a little tool called shortcut ...

Shortcut - Create shortcut

works well for me when I'm setting default shortcuts across a school without a domain server in place ..

You can call it remotely too (so \\server\NETLOGON\shortcut or something instead of having to deploy it out to all machines)

Meant to grab the settings I used for the SIMS shortcut today but got distracted.

Sent my self an email to remind myself to do it tomorrow for you. :)

Since I forgot all about it again (hate weeks like this!), I've attached below.

On the Item Targeting, simply selected the staff group.
