If you're playing with friends go for it, it can be fun.

However i tend to stay away from MOBA's now aday's because literally everyone is a giant elitist baby who have no time to teach a newbie, and would rather batter them with "OMG FFS FEEDER UNINSTALL"

That doesnt just happen to newbies anyway, if you're not playing how the other people want you to play get ready for hate!

Edit- That being said LoL is pretty easy to pick up for new players as most of the heroes are straight forward and there isn't so much of a penalty for dying. Whereas on DOTA 2 etc you have to last hit for gold and if you die you lose said gold.

I play HoN allllll the time, (least popular of all the Moba's!) If it is anything like LoL, the learning curv is like a brick wall. Such a fun game though.

I have tried to play DOTA but it is just not the same, i'm yet to try LoL though.

Edit: As Domo said, you basically get punished and abused for being a new player, the community in all of these games suck majorly.

I started getting into LOL awhile back. I would say if you don't take it too seriously its a hell of a lot of fun. There are a few people that are complete asshats but you get that in any online community. Honestly I have found the majority of people I have played with to be fairly friendly.

The learning curve of MOBA's is not very newbie friendly at all. I'm quite the avid DOTA 2 player, personally. Valve's MMR system is pretty good at matching you with people about your ability so you're not going to get matched up against the pros unless you're up against a twink/smurf account. But those get fired up the rankings fairly quickly. The system is pretty good at figuring it out.

I rate DOTA 2 much higher than LoL or HoN, but that's just personal preference. I'm not too keen on the "We're going to control what heroes champions you're allowed to pick unless you play this game with every waking moment, or give us dosh" mechanic.

Get DOTA on Steam and I'd be happy to give you some coaching, @haldarulon ;)

HoN actually let you play any hero you want now, they have made some very bad decisions in the past which have been the downfall of the game.

EDIT: I might be up for trying DOTA again.

My comment was actually made towards League rather than HoN.. I don't really know much about HoN to comment on it, I haven't tried it. I've played a bit of LoL though and it really wasn't my cup of tea. As a newbie it's very difficult to figure out what your playstyle is* with with such a limited pool that changes each week.

* Turns out I'm an aggressive support/Position 4 or 3. So much fun.

Going to do some installing tonight, have a quick play see how I move forward and then may get back to you!

never EVER played any of these online, used to play Diablo (many moons ago, single player) hoping this may be the start of something new!

Really? I've played upwards of 500 matches and i kid you not this is like 90% of them:3otxuf.jpg (might be slightly racist towards the russian dota 2 community as it's not allways russians that are like this)

Edit - I also haven't played in a couple of months, so their Matchmaking could've gotten better since then.

Only 500 games? Filthy casual :p

Yeah, Valve's MMR is actually pretty good. Anecdotal, I know, but a friend of mine started playing so I made a smurf account and very quickly (Easily within 10 games - and I'm positive Game 3 gave me an enemy smurf) I was playing people that were actually my skill level.

Yes, the Angry Russian Pudge Mid or Feed stereotype exists, and for a damn good reason, which is one of the reasons I mostly play in a 5-stack or as close to it as I can get but that's hardly an accurate portrayal as most of the community. And even so, just because they're rude and obnoxious doesn't mean their MMR isn't similar to yours :p You'll find much more abusive team-mates if you dip into solo queueing*, is true, but your sample size is a lot bigger, too. There's a one-in-four chance to get a 'pudge mid or feed' player, and a one-in-nine chance to get an angry Russian in general. But I'll bet my boots you encounter lots of nice Russians, but because of the lack of backwards R's and 6's (Yeah, yeah, I don't care, 6 is not a letter lol) you don't realise they're Russian. Which hides them from the abuse that 'typical' Russians get, which further purports the stereotype of angry abusive Russian team-mate.

I mean let's be honest, if I had 9 guys giving me abuse just because I was English, I'd think :censored: this game and just build stupid builds like Blink-Dagger Anti-Mage or MoM & Mjollnir Treant**.

* Admittedly me and my friends abuse each other a lot.. And I do keep pestering Cherry to give me his sister's number.. But it's all in good fun. He does the same kinda stuff :D

** Hush. Carry Treant was a legit build before his Aghs upgrade, I don't care who else says otherwise lol :p

The problem I have with HoN is that we only ever que as a 2 or a 3, also with their match making being awful its complete RNG whether you get a competent team or not.

That's the amount i could handle without being extremely bored and just hitting random every game instead of playing the same character over and over. I have acouple of friends with thousands of games, and who've spent hundreds of pounds on the damn cosmetic items o.o

Edit - i'm blaming my work laptop for all spelling errors. :c

Never got into MOBA games, blizzard even have one now, heroes of the storm?

Heroes is a fairly decent entry level MOBA, no items, last hitting, denying.. it's about as simple as you get. Needless to say, that's the one I play :p

Nah, you don't want to pick the same hero. You want a pool of at least 10 you can play well, minimum. What if someone else picks your hero? You're boned. I started off 'maining' a hero (Death Prophet, for the record) but branched out over time. Heck, I still Random about 15-20% of my games. There's no real need to take it so seriously. You win some, you lose some. If you want to learn some new heroes, but have an excuse when you feed, play Single Draft or Random Draft, All Random, or my least favourite, ARDM.

I only play single draft.

I feel it makes the games much more interesting and stops people from 'maining' a hero. It forces you to play/learn different heroes, making you a better player in my opinion.
