Just curious as to what jobs various people here do in the holiday periods.

I do the portable appliance testing, network audits and a general tidy up, maintenance and doing any major jobs, like new IT suites etc.

Imaging, PAT Testing, anything really that can't be done in term time.

I'm only supposed to work term time so its a good opportunity to earn OT (Time in lieu actually) but can get more done in holidays than 'normal' time.

We were going to sort out some performance issues with our SAN disks, but they've scheduled little darling children in the building for revision so it looks like we'll just have to spend the time carrying food around the site for the dumplings to eat while they revise.

Every holiday:

Go from room to room

- clean projector

- log on as administrator and check each machine out

- turn everything off at the wall

After that it's rolling out any new software or updates that I can't do in term tiem. I only work a few days in the holidays and I have a small network, so the list isn't huge

Normally network cabling for me, at my last job and at this one. Sticking out some new switches this half term to power some PoE wireless n rotuers.

Also server stuff - got some more RAM for my Serco server, got a new UPS to work in, some updates to roll out...

Basically anything I would normally do after school, but for the couple of weeks before a holiday I go home on time and save it for the holidays ;)

(Also used to have to delete locally cached roaming profiles during holidays to free up disk space... that is a very dull job indeed, only made bearable by a projector in every room to watch some DivX movies on)

Usually just sort out annoying jobs that are hard to do during term time, and server moves/replacement if any are required. In easter and summer more major projects get done.

This half term apart from lots of little jobs, just need to replace a UPS and start setting up a server if it arrives in time, which it probably wont

Opening up on Saturday to let the builder in and making sure everything is switched off. Then up early on Sunday to go to Portugal. Back on Thursday and taking the minibus for its MOT on Friday.
