Get .sb files to open in Scratch

We're about to start using scratch in IT. As we are running scratch from a public shared drive (not locally installed), it isn't associating the scratch project files to .sb. Whilst I know you can add a reg key to associate extentions to a program of your choice, what happens is that every time scratch loads, it then asks for an image file (which is located in the root of the scratch directory on the shared drive). However I want this to be seamless, and even choosing this file just loads up a blank scratch project rather than the saved one.

 

Going into scratch normally and browsing to the project manually loads it up fine, but I already know not having the .sb files go to scratch will be a nightmare!

 

Anyone gone down the same route as us or just installed locally?

I have always just installed Scratch locally on the machine due to the way the software runs. I assume running it over the network will result in the software rather slowly if multiple are using it.

We run the network install here and have had no complaints. I think we have had 3 lessons of it at the same time and it ran with no noticable slowdown.

 

We have the same issue with scratch, but the teachers have taught the students that the only way of opening the files is from within scratch. From what I can gather the only way to do it is a custom registry key.

You should be able to use there app to register the filetypes with the relevant scratch app ( not sure if you can get it to do it silently or not and also if user permissions will be a problem ? )

Hi all

 

I had exactly the same issue.

 

After banging my head against the wall, I seem to of done some regsitry hacking and it seems to of worked.

 

A zip with my results is attatched. A little "read me" in there too!

The zip detects 1 file in there but it may be corrupt (the contents seem to be all messed up).

 

@LeightonJames: software speed is fine and doesn't seem to run slow when we have a full class running it over the network.

ah you forgot to add on the image file bit. How has it worked for you now then up until this point without that?

 

Also, is this to be run when users log on or to computers?

Yeah its worked fine now. I got the below message until I added the image file:

To be honest, I added in in both computer startup AND user logon - just to be safe and to cover all bases!
